Nintendo and their Wii own retail, has a chart to prove it photo

Every once in awhile, Nintendo sends us an e-mail to remind us how awesome they are. You see, sometimes we can forgot. Personally, it's been months since I've turned on my Wii to play a game that I didn't have to play for "work." So I guess it's nice of Nintendo to remind us that, hey, people are actually buying their products. A lot of people.

Nintendo points out that, despite pricing shifts and SKU debacles that have hit the industry, the Wii has emerged as the best selling console of this month (this from NPD Group numbers and internal figures). Nintendo also reminds us both the Wii and the Nintendo DS have remained the two best-selling videogame systems in the US.

Additionally, new Wii titles are being added to the library at a faster rate than any other home console to date, at an average rate of nine a month. Nintendo were nice enough to provide us with a handy chart, which you can see above.

Hit the jump some more fast and furious facts, proving undeniably that even if you haven't changed your Mii's eyebrows in eight months, Nintendo's still on top.

  • * Nintendo remained the top U.S. game publisher for the sixth consecutive month.
  • * So far this year, Nintendo titles claim six of the industry's top ten best sellers, including the top three: Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearl, and Wii Play.
  • * The Nintendo DS has the largest game library for any current-generation system, with more than 300.
  • * Between the Wii retail library, the Wii Shop Channel, and the Nintendo DS, there will be over 800 games to choose from by the end of the year.

I'm guessing in the long run software sale won't be as high as the 360, there are only so many crappy games people will buy just because they are bundled with a controller.

Great, go Wii. However , why did I just buy Shadow of the Colossus (used ) while my bro plays BioShock on 360. Oh ya, the Wii justs sits there and i'm waiting to buy a new "gaming laptop" till Spore and TF2 comes out. (but I think the one I have can play TF2) ( if not then total buy early, love my TF)

I'd love to buy a flux capacitor just to show off one of these recent sales charts to everyone at E3 before the 360 launched. I never saw it coming.

Well, it is nice to see that Nintendo is succeeding. I hope that Sony and Microsoft will have a chance to improve and succeed. Only time will tell.

It IS nice to see Nintendo finally repeating their success from the 90s, but I'm starting to see some heads beginning to inflate.

It's almost masturbatory how they keep reminding us why they kick so much ass.

Poor form, Nintendo, poor form.

Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl? Same game. Stop counting them twice and just count them as one massively-popular game. Stupid data.

I'm not happy with my Wii at all. I bought it in May and it's been turned on for about 10 - 15 hours at the most. 4 hours were with Wii Sports, which I never picked up again, and the rest were Twilight Princess, which I simply stopped playing once I reached the water temple. The Wii had just been sitting next to my 360, collecting dust every since then, until recently. I put it away with my other inactive system so to speak. In its place I put in my PS2 again. Slim Tools + Swap Magic + Breaker Pro FTW!

Wii - 10.57M
Xbox - 10.51M

Although the numbers are actually very accurate, I usually give or take a hundred thousand units. Either way, the Wii is still ahead.

Since everyone seems to be coming on here to post how much they don't play there Wii, I guess I will be the one that will say I own a 360, PS3 and a Wii and the Wii is by far the most played game in my house. One things most people don't get that visit sites like this one is one huge thing, this is a FAMILY system. Ok i'm done now.

too bad the wii has only 3 games worth owning (zelda, re4, and super paper mario).

seriously, ninty needs to get on the ball so my girlfriend can go back to her wii and stop bogarting my 360. i swear to god, i don't know what i'll do if i walk upstairs to play bioshock only to find the 360 in the hands of a pixyish viva pinata fan ONE. MORE. TIME.

From the the recent sales, people who don't play Wii seem to be in the hardcore audience as sales show someone is clearly buying the system by the truck loads. I think this just shows how small of a minority hardcore gamers are. I mean look at the the 360 and it's sales. You'd think with all the great titles it has, it would be flying off the shelf!

Surprisingly, reading these comments should actually show that most people love Nintendo and presumably their Wii.

Maybe only 3-4 comments were negative. Color me surprised.

Oh, and throw me in the "yeah Nintendo!!!" camp too.

I've got to say, until the recent release of BioShock I haven't played my 360 at all, I haven't been excited by the games at all, it's just remixed versions of enemies running at you in a straight line and you have to shoot them. People come on here saying that they don't play the Wii or that it sucks, but I don't know where this other promised land of gaming is which makes the Wii pale in comparison.

It sure as hell aint with the 360 and PS3, I own all three systems and the 360 and PS3 for me are depressingly predictable and strangely 90's. I've had to wait over a year for what I consider the first next gen game on my 360 - BioShock - so I don't understand the "I never play on my Wii" camp.

Everyone has different tastes I suppose.

All you people complaining about how your Wii doesn't get played, go to the fucking store, purchase Strikers, and bring it. The game makes me throw controls, and I haven't thrown controls in like 15 years.

I think their choice of colors is was too predictable. Blue for the Wii? 360 green for the 360? Come on guys, try harder. Chartreuse is so underrated. Also, needs more black and stars.

I'm not saying the Wii doesn't have potential, or that some people might actually still be playing Wii Sports with their families. Obviously, they are. I have a family, and we don't play the Wii. The last game we played together was Boogie, which didn't last very long.

I'm also not down on Nintendo for being successful; they deserve it! Really, it doesn't matter to me who's on top, as long as I can play games. It would matter to me in some sort of post-apocalyptic gaming world where only Nintendo remains, because if the Wii was the only system I (personally) owned, I wouldn't be much of a gamer.

@zardoz

Yes, because I'm sure every recent Zelda game hasn't been a remix of the same old formula. But even then, I honestly don't care for one. If the original formula is still fun, I'll still play it, even if you'd like to consider the newer ones expansion packs.

All games follow a formula set in their respective genres. This is nothing new. If a game can follow a preset formula and still be fun and feel fresh or at least appealing to fans of a genre, than it can't be a bad thing.

On to the consoles though... To be fair, although my Wii has barely been touched, I am planning on keeping it around for sure (I don't have a gamecube). Also, my 360 has been played a shit load to say the least. Why? Well, the way I see it, it's the multiplayer that keeps it all going (in my opinion). I'm not playing my 360 now (I havent played on it for about a week) simply because I haven't felt like going through FEAR or Lost Planet yet. I will soon though. It's also worth noting that once I get tired of playing those two on multiplayer I'll probably be playing a new game like Halo 3, Bioshock, Stranglehold, the list goes on. It's also worth noting that I've played the 360 nearly every day since I first got it.

The only games I'm looking at for the Wii are Super Mario Galaxy and the new Smash Bros. Also Manhunt 2 if you want to add that on there...

Obviously different tastes come to play, which is why you can't understand the "I never play my Wii camp." But what I don't understand is what I'm missing out on that Wii lovers apparently have. Until then, I'll be happy playing regularly on my 360 and PC.

They singlehandedly have sold the system by talking at work, soccer games, while shopping etc. about playing Wii sports with lil Jonny and Katie.

I completely agree Shenocide....I don't see anything that the Wii has to offer as of now.

Well i think some of u guys are missing the reason why the wii is outselling 360 and Ps3. I think the main reason why is that japanese people really don't care about the 360 and games like gears of war or halo. The main reason why people bought the 360 is because of blue dragon cause it is a japanese style anime game and it is from the creator of FF.
