Nintendo and Disney make magic together at the Magic Kingdom photo

I love me some Disneyland/Disney World and I love my Nintendo DS, so it's nice to see that they're playing well together in a new joint program called the Disney Magic Connection.

Disney Magic Connection uses the handheld, wireless ability of the Nintendo DS to help visitors through the Magic Kingdom. Jim Hill Media talks about the ongoing testing of this program, which enables testers to find show schedules, parade routes, and their favorite rides and characters.

Imagine using the DS to find a restaurant where you eat a "theme-parked" burger. Bleh. Then you use it  to find your favorite roller coaster. It seems that the DS will know what line you're standing in, and will give you attraction-related information or games to entertain you while you wait for your turn. You'll go through the loops and corkscrews and then feel your lunch coming back up. The Disney Magic Connection can save you by helping you locate a bathroom before you vomit.

If testing goes well, a full version could be rolled out to the Walt Disney World Resort by 2009.

Do you think giving kids the tech and ability to stalk Mickey is the best idea?

That is pretty epic all around. Now can we just get square into the deal and get some Kingdom Hearts with Mario that would pretty much put my entire childhood into one game and I'd really appreciate that.

Zomg! PS3 stole Wiimote from from Nintendo with SIXAXIS. Nintendo are totally stealing KH from Sony!

/sarcasm.

I wonder how much money they'll make collecting all the DSs that fall out of people's pockets on the rides and then reselling them?

What's that about gaming not entering mainstream culture?

Dude, this sounds totally cool. We go to Disneyland all the time. That would be crazy if basically new park content would just show up and be ready for perusal in a handheld.

That would be so much better than those gay folding maps.

They do this with PSP's in museums in Europe already. Granted, the PSP has no stylus sweetness, it has been implemented as an interactive tour device overseas for two or more years now.

Ooh, now if only that could be expanded from Disneyland to... I dunno, THE REST OF THE PLANET????

But seriously, that sounds like a prettily cool idea, I now want to go to Disneyland just for that.

Great idea, but I wonder how many parents will want their kids still glued to their DSs when they're paying outrageous ticket prices to enjoy the magical atmosphere?

I was selected to test this last Friday. Worked pretty well with a few bugs. It hung on us a few time and had to restart it. Also, the battery did not last all day. You will not be able to use any DS. They modified the ones they gave us by added GPS. They added a strip that went around your neck. Best part was being able to get realtime waiting times at all the rides. The Trivia game was also a good way to past the time waiting in lines. We did not try this, but if you have 2 of these in your party, you will be able to track where you both are in the park.
