If not, Nintendo can just hire me as a DBA so I can go ahead and add the relational link between active device and purchased content.
There are only so many time I can get destroyed playing Street Fighter before its time for something new.
but i'm really starting to wonder if nintendo fuct up the 3ds only to get it out before building extreme hype, games, services and waiting for all the kids who's parents just bought them a dsi for x-mas to get warrant spending the money ona new handheld............
I feel that I must agree with both sides of the coin, here. After the Sony debacle, I understand the need to make sure your online shop is tip-top, but releasing that as a main priority is huge right now, especially considering how paltry the current lineup is (outside of Super IV 3DE).
Get on that, Nintendo. With the quickness.
I'm not too sure how many game launches you have lived through, but in all honesty the 3DS launch titles are just as lackluster as any other game launch. I'd say give the 3DS to the end of the year to tell how it is going to do, especially as most of the big releases are in June. I wouldn't suggest Nintendo has fucked up, its just the process most consoles go through for their first year before developers get a handle on the tech and begin to experiment with new games and such. That said, I would have like to get the online portion running soon, but an extra week or so isn't that bad. Just praise the lord I have Okamiden until then.
Aaaaand this is why I'll never be a fangirl of any company.
@Qraze "to get warrant spending the money on a new handheld"
I'm wondering the same thing; they probably knew people wouldn't drop 250 on THREE-DEE for children, even those age-safe so they're just throwing them now and letting people check them out in the stores and save money.
It doesn't help that pretty much every game announced so far is a port/"upgrade" of existing games. The only notable non-remake I recall being announced is Kid Icarus.
I wish I still had my $250.
All I'm saying is Nintendo makes promises for things in areas that they have no experience in.
The worst launch I've ever witnessed.
OH I GET IT. Once the... uhm.... 8 titles that are coming out for the eShop and... 3 demos of... applicatons come out... the system will be worth it?
I could care less about the eShop. All I want is OOT 3D to release. From there, it's just one awesome title after the other.
Like Miyamoto even said about delayed games, a good game is a good game, a bad game is forever. Let them perfect the e-shop. :P
I just don't want that game to fail, I won't allow it (I say that yet I don't have a 3DS).
Thats quite a statement, were you here when the PS3 launched at 600$ with "No Games" for several months, with it being in stock nowhere for a while, then stores having way too much stock and they had to slash prices immediately, and it still had a terrible game lineup.
Theres been worse console launches, but 3DS isn't good by any means.
Such a joy to be a gamer, isn't it? To have the ability to choose when to buy the stuff you want. Patience rewards, young padawans (or is that padawan? I don't know the plural of padawan...)
Disclaimer: I'm not talking about or towards you, Jim. I know that you are an editor and so you have an obligation to buy and report when it's a good time to buy a system and when it's not. This is for everyone who feels like Nintendo has screwed up.
Disappointing to say the least. Looks like a few more weeks of gathering dust, I guess.
To those who say "who cares about the Eshop" I say, thats pretty much what I live off on the Wii and PS3. With PSN also down, Nintendo really dropped the ball and could've raked in massive profits in these last few weeks.
Its been pretty hard to justify having the hardware thus far since I can't even buy games the way that I prefer to, which is to say cheaply and with impulse.
The eShop opens the door for smaller games. Ones that maybe are worth playing and are not completely overpriced. I'll pay 10 bucks for Rayman2 but 50$? (Yes, it's 50 in europe) The feature can't be here soon enough.
But I was exaggerating in my previous post on purpose. Things like that should be ready on the launch date. I still can't access some menu points because it tells me that feature needs to be implemented. I don't know how you see it, but I think it's highly unprofessional.
@wickedsickzombie:
I heard May when the 3ds was released. What it shows is that Nintendo doesn't give a shit about dead lines when it comes to "stuff that happenz on the internetz lulz".
It's basically the same arguments repeated and petty bickering heard when the DS launched and we all know what happened soon after.
Everyone just relax & chill.

Better than 2 and cheaper than a 3DS. Again, you can always wait for the price to drop.
About your third paragraph though, the one about highly unprofessional, I agree. If you don't have a feature ready, don't put a button for it in the system. It's like having a link to something on your site, but not having the page you are linking to ready yet.
This is coming from the guy saying the original Zelda sucks? Zelda on NES looks like Crysis compared to Gameboy and Game Gear games.
I'll just leave this peace of awesomeness here for everyone...
>Complain about them delaying the eShop until it's perfect.
It's just a week delay dude, chill out. =P

..and that didn't have online features. Our generation is just very fast moving nowadays, nothing wrong with it but one of the "cons" is we just get very impatient faster - Its all thanks to tools like the internet whereas before all that I would have to go down to the library to find this info out or get a magazine to prove my point rather than magically getting this info within' seconds from Wikipedia (even at that I kinda question its accuracy, I'm pretty sure there were other games at launch???)
Anyhow, I still fault Nintendo for not releasing ALL its promised features. That is a first (Minus the whole rumble-pak thing back in the 90s).
The way I see it, is, the opinion of a system launch is very objective. Ask me if I think the Wii had a good launch. I'd say yes because I was blown away by Mario Galaxy. The rest was a complete failure. Still, it was enough for most of us.
Now the 3DS doesn't have any title that stands out.
Gaidenrider: Even though I ordered an apple and you gave me a shirt with peaches on it, I must confess. That is a great looking shirt!
I've browsed the whole catalog 2 days ago and I've stopped more than 1 time at Rayman. Maybe I'll pick it up after I've played through Realms of the Haunting. At least I've the english version now and not the lame german dubbed one. But I'm getting sliiiightly offtopic here. ^^
@wickedsickzombie "a good game is a good game, a bad game is forever"
This^ I can at least agree with this. I admit I rather have delays and end up with a solid great game than get a rushed out the door crappy one.
