We recently showed you Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden 2 Tokyo Game Show 2007 trailer in all of its short but shiny next-gen glory, but there's another Tecmo trailer we've been waiting to see, and now we have it: The Ninja Gaiden DS TGS '07 trailer.
First off, this trailer was well made. They were smart enough to know that many a cynical gamer would be looking for the answer to "how the hell will a Ninja Gaiden game work on the Nintendo DS?" This trailer first does an appropriate amount of teasing (as any trailer should), and then shows actual stylus movements over gameplay to reveal how the DS control scheme works.
This game looks absolutely incredible. The graphics, much like those of Square Enix's Final Fantasy III, had me shaking my head in disbelief. Everything from the lush backdrops to the huge (well, huge for a DS screen) bosses look great. How is this a DS game? More importantly, the game play looks involving and challenging -- exactly what we all want from a Ninja Gaiden game.
As a Ninja Gaiden fan, I'm a bit biased, and I'll get excited about any new game with the name, but this trailer actually has me more excited about the DS game than the upcoming Xbox 360 title. And I'm all over this baby at TGS.

I agree, the game DOES look great, especially on the DS, but am I the only one who thinks the touch controls just look like random flailing?
I mean, EVERYTHING the stylus was doing just looked like nonsensical scribbling.
Maybe I'm missing something, but seriously, I couldn't replicate a SINGLE ONE of those movements after watching it. None of them were defined enough to make sense!
I wasn't nearly as excited for this game as I am after seeing that footage, I need something to give my DS a break from pokemon, I think the cartridge is going to grow roots soon..
I'm not sure what to think. The game looks great, and I can appreciate the fact that it'll be a lot easier to hold the DS and use the stylus if you have it to it's side Brain Age style.
But those stylus moves just seemed nonsensical to me. I couldn't really make out any definite system.
I'll wait for the reviews before I get this. And I have to agree with Falkonite, I think my Pokemon cartridge is going end up permanently fusing with my DS.
come on, the controls cant be that complicated. point to move, flick up to jump, slash towards an enemy to attack it, etc. i'm ashamed to say i've never tried a ninja gaiden game, but this one looks like it could be a lot of fun.
I have good hopes for the controls. Looks like it will be fun and different, yet still a challenge (i.e. a real game, not another minigame-fest). This is Team Ninja, after all.

Anyway this reminds me of when Niero's avatar was Ryu.

Anyways, I'm also glad any other playables are just a normal ninja chick, and not that ho from Gaiden.
Copping this one for sure!

Also, comic sans.
