GameVideos shared with us this video showing how the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 2 stacks up to the currently available title Ninja Gaiden Sigma. To be fair, Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360) is still in development, and is probably a year from release, but it's still interesting to see how the two compare.
Ninja Gaiden 2 lacks that creamy smoothness and visual polish that its predecessor has, and while we're sure that Tecmo has plans to match or beat the quality that Sigma achieved, this footage of NG2 is markedly less impressive. We do dig the scythe, though.
Here at Destructoid, we're not crazy enough to turn this into system war bait (Sigma is a PS3 title and NG2 is an Xbox 360 exclusive), but we could see how this video would be unfairly used in such a fight. Tecmo's Itagaki really seems to dig the Xbox 360, so we'd bet that the final version of Ninja Gaiden 2 will be a sight to behold. Oh, and it should be pretty fun, too.

Your Right Dale, it's a bit of an unfair fight now. But we know Tecmo, every game of their hands look absolutely beautiful. And Ninja Gaiden 2 won't be a different story. Or maybe it will. What can the squeeze out of the xbox next year? We'll see.
Suprise, Dale North thinks Sigma looks better than NG2 .Wonder if it has to do with what systems they're on? I know you love the PS3 dale, and you have the right to your opinion, but c'mon? Are we watching the same video?
The funny thing is, I saw a post on Kotaku where they said DEstructoid thinks NG:Sigma looks better than NG2, and I had to confirm what I already knew....Dale North posted it
final NG2 will be equal or better, only reason NG: S has good graphics is because TN always does an excellent job on the graphics, hell they could have made Pokemon look that good.
Personally, I think Ninja Gaiden 2 looks better, even though only by a slight margin. Either way, it doesn't matter. I didn't like the first one of XBox, and I doubt I'll like the second one. Though the blood and gore and mutilations help make it seem cooler.
Um, has anyone bother to watch the high def version of this video. The detail in second scene it shows for NG2 is way beyond Sigma. Especially considering that Sigma is the 2nd remake of an xbox game, so it's been in development for quite a while. As good as NG2 looks now, it will blow Sigma away when it complete.
I think NG2 looked just as good as sigma, if not better. The reason why Sigma seemed a lot more detailed was because it was in a closed room with the camera a lot closer compared to NG2. If yo notice when the camera gets really close to the character in NG2 it looks really detailed, and has more polish compared to sigma. But i do agree that both games look similare graphic wise, but NG2 is still in development so it's only going to look better.
it of been a better comparison had they picked a stage in sigma that was outside. either way i think both games kinda look the same with a slight edge towards sigma. if sigma had dismembermant effects than there would probably be less people saying that ng2 looks better. i dont really care
Yeah, I don't really agree here. The comparison is pretty iffy to begin with for a couple of reasons.
1.) We're comparing a fully outside area with two small rooms.
2.) There's more enemies on screen at any given moment in NG2.
3.) As mentioned, the camera angles are significantly different... they didn't choose any section of NG2 where the camera was closer in and thus showed more enemy/character detail.
I mean, at this stage I'd say they look pretty comparable. The animation seems to be as strong between the two, the character models are no less complex. Factoring in that Sigma is out and NG2 is at least six months any and it becomes even less of a point. Even if it does wind up looking slightly worse, I'd get over it... It'll be nice to play something new, I've already played the original AND Black lol.
What I think the problem is, really, is that Sigma comes off as about 100 times more interesting because the player is doing things beyond just slashing enemies. Jumping off walls and other acrobatics might not be a specific "graphics" issue, but it increases the presentation here by a significant amount. I'd like to see some of that in NG2... hopefully from the demo at TGS.

NG2 still lacks high detail textures for what I'm seeing.

That said, NG2 will blow it out the fucking water.
