Ninja Couture: Ryu's new Ninja Gaiden costumes photo

Sure, ninjas have style, but it's kind of the all-black thing that makes it their signature. Some people may prefer their ninjas decked out in something a little less basic, or at least that's what Team Ninja hopes with the release of their new Ninja Gaiden II DLC packs.

You can choose from one of three new costume packs that allow you to outfit Ryu in five different colors of each costume. They are called Biometal, Shadow Walker or Fiend, and each will set you back 200 Microsoft points. Ouch, right? Apparel is pricey enough these days in the real world, but then you have to go home and decide what's best to wear to impress your enemies before you disembowel them. It's that first impression that counts, you know.

Will you pass on Ryu's new apparel, or is it too sexy for you to pass up?

Christ, it couldn't have been free?

Oh well, it would only be cool for the first ten minutes playing with it, I'd assume anyway.

Am I the only one that thinks those look kind of ugly? Plus Bio looks like a cheap attempt to jump on the MGS bandwagon. Nothx.

This is exactly the kind of stuff that should be DLC, only they are asking too much money. I'm all for micro-transactions when they are actually micro.

Those are all really cool looking, but I will never pay money to give a character in a video game nicer clothes. No matter how small the amount.

Hey, reckon they'll have fixed the camera so that you'll be able to freakin see the costumes?

$2.50 for a virtual costume is freaking RIDICULOUS! When all of this talk of microtransactions was going on, I was hoping things like this would be the equivalent of a $.25 or something, but, I knew that they would try to f**k over people. DON'T BUY THIS S**T! Maybe, they will start lowering the prices on these type of items! RIPOFF!

They should make a Kasumi skin, now that would sell like hotcakes.

(if Tecmo do please send 40% of all royalties made to Justice)

@casualweaponry: Itagaki, prior to leaving, repeatedly stated that these were not on the disc.

Anyway, as someone who's a big enough fanboy to download them all, I'll give my impressions:

All costumes have Black, Red, and Silver variants. The other two colors are dependent on the outfit.

Shadow Walker- It's cool-looking from the front, his facemask has this falcon thing going on over the mouth, and you can see his eyes. Unlike the rest, instead of a scarf, there's a piece of fabric that hangs off the back of his head and can look a bit like straight hair. The rest of the costume looks like Ryu's starting outfit from NG1 (the basic purple getup). The only thing besides the scarf thing that bugs me about this costume is that it has extended shoulder pads that his weapons can clip through. The other two colors are green and blue.

Biometal- this one grew on me. His facemask looks pretty retarded at first, but having just played MGS4, I didn't mind the single glowing eye. The rest of the outfit looks like his old Ashtar costume from NG1, but with a scarf this time. The "veins" in the costume glow- reminded me of Jehuty from ZOE a bit. Other two costume colors are green and orange.

Fiend- this was the first one revealed, and it looks absolutely ridiculous and cool sortof. He has a lot of body spikes coming off his thighs andelbows and stuff, the mask has a weird goblin nose on it, the scarf is torn, but what really gets me about this one is if you look at his groin ares, there's a goddamn face on it. It's eye-catching and really gay. Other two colors are purple and white.

I hope that helps someone.

man... how fast do you think they are going to get slapped with a lawsuit from the company that create Bio-Booster Armour Guyver? Not only is the suit called "The Bio Suit" but the design itself is pretty much a rip off.

so I have to pay 200 MSP each for costumes that should be free to begin with?

Is Tecmo and/or Team Ninja suffering that bad they have to do such a thing to customers?

I think Christiangamer got it in one: Lame.

DLC should be for adding value and longevity, instead it's used for money grubbing and nickel & diming people (though you gotta be pretty rabid and/or dumb to pay for this kind of shit anyway).

I can't wait to see the Sims 3 on a console, oh boy oh boy, all those clothing collections to charge people for.

Not worth it. As far as I'm concerned, the only company that really deserves my money for DLC is Harmonix.

Of course, if BigHugeGames ever released Cities and Knights for Catan, that'd be a different story...

Just checked the file sizes; 11mb, 10mb, and 11mb. So unless Tecmo bloated up the file sizes from 412kb, these costumes are NOT on the disc.

These costumes are equivalent to those damn idolm@ster planes in Ace Combat 6. If you get boners from the game and the dlc then you'll buy it. If you're flaccid then move on and spend your points on something else.

Now if you're just cheap, then wait a few months and maybe these will be free to download.

I hate how people complain about this.

its not like you have to buy it. If you want it and cant afford the 200 MS points dont come crying how they are wrong for charging.

no they are not. if you needed them to play the game it would be wrong. If you dont want them dont buy them. I personally like the fact that they have it there for me to purchase if I like.

Im glad they gave us some options. Sure it would be nice if they were on the disc, but they werent. Get over it.

I bought the bio costume and this its great. Best 2.50 I have ever spent.

(thats not even a pack of cigarettes for crying out loud)

get a job!

Why is it that when people complain about outrageous DLC pricing someone always has to say, "Wahhh, get a job!". Hey, I've got a job, I can afford to pay $2.50 for these way too expensive virtual costumes.

Don't try to justify your purchase, to yourself, by coming down on consumers who choose to believe that this item is severely overpriced.
calpis's Avatar - Comment posted on 07/03/2008 16:02

Overpriced or not, nothing SHOULD be free. People are going to complain no matter how much it costs.

200ms points($2.50) = "That much for one costume? WTF!"
40ms points($0.50) = "I can't just buy 40ms points from MS? I have to buy 400? WTF? Waste of 360ms points."

So what's the real problem? The fact that 80ms points equals $1.00.

JynxShot's Avatar - Comment posted on 07/03/2008 16:36

Yeah um... I regularly have MS Points floating in my account because I usually buy arcade games, so having an extra 600 points to kill on costumes was not a big deal at all. For me, the cost is conceptually nonexistent, because whenever I run low on points, I go to the store and buy some more. If you're annoyed that they charage for the costumes, then don't buy them.

It's like horse-armor in Oblivion. I thought it was fucktarded, but my friend bought it and loved it. He doesn't play Ninja Gaiden like I do, and therefore can't understand why I would spend 600 points to get 3 outfits.

It's pretty pointless to argue over it- don't like it? Don't buy it. You're not missing out unless you really like to look different while killing things.

I agree with sparq-l: This is exactly the kind of thing that should be DLC. That's the kind of stuff that I'd personally buy, at least. Not those particular items of clothing, but like, say, Rock Band clothing or accessories... I am there.

This DLC is garbage. All three of them should be packaged together, for the cost of one of them. They are not worth... however many dollars 200 points is. Three for 200, maybe. It's highway robbery, but I'm sure most will bend over for it anyway.

Power to you if you really want to pay $2.50 for these but given that most companies use to just give these away for free (and honestly it's not like Ninja Gaiden 2 has much to earn in it anyway) it's a dirty move.

Now if it was a totally different character/weapon/SOMETHING that adds more to the game itself the price might be worth it to more people. Maybe the Mission Pack will be worth it though unless it's ultra cheap I can't see it being resonable.
