Ninety Nine Nights 2 gets screenshots, hooray! photo

The first real screenshots for Micrsoft's Dynasty Warriors clone Ninety Nine Nights 2 have appeared, via Famitsu magazine. Perhaps it's just my rampant DW fanboyism but I always thought the first game was a little bit rubbish. Nevertheless, I'm prepared to give the sequel a chance, since I'm always looking for some real competition in the army-based-hack-n-slash genre, since Koei really needs the motivation.

As expected, the game looks pretty effing gorgeous so far, but we'll see how it goes. The original game was promising and tried to do a few things to shake up the DW formula, but it was unbalanced and the "boss" fights, such as they were, managed to be pretty awful. Hopefully we see much improvement this time around.

This looks good, but it lacks giant robots. I'm looking forward to playing gundam dynasty warriors 2 tomorrow when out gamestop receives it.

I'm looking forward to it! N3 had some pretty great ideas, but the whole thing just didn't work together. The boss fights were just stupid, you were damaged MASSIVELY for seemingly basic attacks (mages) and it was so badly play-tested that no one realised the large ogres could die with their power-ups inside their body so you physically couldn't pick them up. Which would basically happen everytime.

But then filling an entire canyon full of water and tearing through thousands of orcs was pretty damn satisfying. I just want to kill things in a really fun way.

Maybe they'll learn from their mistakes? You can always count on Microsoft.

Haha I was like "They had the money to make a sequel to that shit game already?"

Horrible Dynasty Warriors clone. All I liked was the sick ass "supa ultimate numba one explosion death moves".

N3 looked pretty, but the lack of multiplayer was the clinger. Games like DW are best done in co-op.

These types of games are always fun. Which game should I try first: DW Gundam or N3?

I found this game really hard. I'm always looking for a game to fill my dynasty warriors needs, but this sadly didn't cut it.
I WANT DW6:EMPIRES.

Whats worse, a Dynasty Warriors game which is a clone of every previous Dynasty Warriors game... or a game that clones the clone of Dynasty Warriors?

All they need is a checkpoint system, 99 NN stages where to long and if you died at the end, BACK TO THE START WITH YOU.

I find N3 way more fun than DN, better combat system, special attacks, and weapons.

Jim, have you heard of Devil Kings? It seems like a Dynasty Warriors type of game. An anime adaption just started in Japan recently(known as Sengoku Basara) as well as a new PSP game to go along with it: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9f-49-en-70-3916.html

It's the oddest thing some random PS2 game and possibly Dynasty Warriors ripoff got an anime adaption, especially one with such good production values. Now only if they would get work on that live action Dynasty Warriors film...right?

N3 was all right, but lost major points for not having co-op, and feeling in general like I'd only played half of the game when I was done. Here's hoping N3,2 will be better.
