Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Want some BioShock 2 gameplay footage? Well, we've got nine minutes of the stuff for you to feast upon like so many ADAM-crazed Splicers. This walkthrough video with one of the lead designers demonstrates how one will go about tackling the principal enemy of BioShock 2, the demented Big Sister. It's what we saw when we previewed the game a few weeks ago, so enjoy!

This is a demo level, but if you don't want any trace of a spoiler whatsoever, you may want to skip the vid. The rest of you can feel free to vicariously see Rapture through the eyes of Big Daddy #1 as he meets Tenenbaum and gets acquainted with Rapture's new leaseholder. As you will see, this particular Big Daddy does not f*ck around, and I must admit that the practical bullying of the Splicers looks pretty bloody fun.

Check it out and let us know what you think. I have to say, that's looking rather scary indeed and, at least from a gameplay perspective, very solid. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the story can hold up.

*Having both arms extended like Frankenstein's monster during the action still looks stupid.
*Swimming around the outskirts of rapture looks very cool.
*Little sisters I will harvest you.
*Big sister I will rape you.

Even if(!) the story can't live up to it's predecessor, this looks like a very, very solid shooter. I'll have to get it, no matter what.

Looks pretty fun indeed!

BioShock 1 was a good game but I found it was bad at keeping my attention as I found myself quitting after an hour or so as I couldn't sit at my PC any longer so hopefully this one rips my face into the game and gets me to play the crap out of it.

I'm totally confused as to when this takes place. If it's after the first game then why do you play as the first big daddy?

Didn't play Bioshock but watched a lot of it. It seems that they may have selected an approach (playing as Big Daddy) that will make it possible to be as good as the first one. We'll see...

Loved Bioshock, although thought it ran out off steam after the big reveal. Still, the chance to spend more time in Rapture is more than welcome. Oh, and whats the betting you turn out to be the Irish dude (Atlus/Atlas). Apologies to those of a longer memory (I forget who the Irish guy turned out to be) if this isn't possible.

HOLY DICKS, this is going to be so sick. This is exactly how I felt when I was watching the gameplay trailers for the original Bioshock.

Somewhereee, somewhere under the sea, somewhere waiting for meeeee.

Thankfully this time 2k isn't gonna hold back the ps3 version and I don't have to but this game twice.

hmm i might be the only one who thinks this looks kinda lame. at least not as good as the first one. which i liked.
under water looks lame and boring. i also understand you dont get attacked out side(maybe only by big sister?). so its just there because people wanted to go out there, also very slow walking underwater treasure hunting.

of course there's gonna be alot of new plasmids, which is cool. but i also like weapons, i dont want to punch and nail gun people the whole time. that's gay.

also escort missions suck. and doing this every time you want adam when you adopt? that's gay. i guess i would only do the harvest.

i dont know, i will just have to wait and see.

Part of what made Bioshock special was the reveal that really brought to focus why we do what we do in games (from a story perspective). How is Bioshock going to follow that up without copying it verbatim I'm curious about.

I mean Bioshock was more than just the story and those things will be easier to recreate I think. The Art direction from Bioshock looks consistent with the original and it looks to have a similar atmosphere. However, one thing that's harder to recreate is the sense of wonder you felt the first time you explored Rapture.

That being said, I hope 2K Marin is successful is creating a worthy sequel to Bioshock.

Looks pretty good for a sequel. It'll feel like a different world without Atlas and Ryan breaking in over the radio every 5 minutes.

It might be me, but it seems a lot darker too.

@soulwax:

Presumably the first big daddy had no interaction with the PC in Bioshock 1 and survived all the events in the game. Every other detail will undoubtedly form the basis of the story...

The more I see of this game the angrier I get. This looks like a really generic FPS with some awful game design choices. I might be ok on its own merits but its turning into a completely different style of game from the original Bioshock. I need to see a more complete version to be sure but I'm thinkin' of avoiding this one like the plague. :(

Bioshock is one of my all time favorite games. If the story can manage to have as much depth as the first one then this may be equivilent(hope I spelt it right) to the Godfather Part II of gaming.

If we can't fight underwater, at least don't make it so damn static. Did the ocean current die? Why don't any of the plants move, or the little specks in the water? Am I the only one who thinks it looks like time froze and it's just a camera moving around with disembodied footstep sound effects?

Why is everybody fapping over this, it looks exactly the same as the end sequence of the first Bioshock when you donned the big daddy suit? I hope I'm wrong but it looks like the same flawed gameplay as before with only incremental changes. The only thing that made Bioshock good was the Rapture but we've been there done that. At this point it looks more like an expansion pack than a sequel.

Does anybody actually make a big deal out of the moral choices? Also you play a rosie big daddy, so why do you have a drill? Another thing is the little sisters, don't all the splicers have ADAM inside of them? So why do only a few special corpses can be harvested? It'd be cool if you can gather a posse of your fellow Big Daddies to follow you around like a nice gang.

I'm not really hyped for Bioshock 2.
Bioshock 2 graphics look exactly the same as Bioshock 1.
Nothing really looks any different.
Ok.
So they add a few more characters and put you back into Rapture.
No doubt the game will sell well but it just looks to be the same as the previous game.

Good LORD! Are you going to have to fend off splicers every damn time you need to get Adam? That's going to get old after the first few times. REALLY old - and I can imagine as the game progresses, it will become increasingly difficult to protect the Little Sisters. However - that will introduce a better mechanic into the "morality" system - in the first bioshock, there really wasn't that much of a difference between "saving" and "harvesting". Now, it really looks like taking the good path could be more difficult/interesting, which makes the "choice" a lot more meaningful - Do you want to be potentially frustrated in protecting a little sister, or do you just take the easy way: snap her neck, and wring her dry of all the precious adam, much like how you wring a sponge, if I have the correct method for extracting adam down right (hey the big daddy is strong enough to wring a small body).

And when did the splicers get stupid? In the first game, they almost always ran from the Big Daddies - now they're dumb as bricks and charge at the Big Daddy to get to the little sister. I know there was a bit at the first part which showed some splicers running away, but when you're defending the little sister and you gruesomely kill the first 5 splicers, surely the sixth splicer would be a bit less enthusiastic to charge right in.

At least it looks like you can ACTUALLY die in the game. I hope to all hell they don't bring back the Vita-Chambers.
