NiGHTS sequel more or less confirmed! photo

... I say "more or less" because, y'know, they might be lying. Lying with a massive cover story. Remember that issue of EGM that touted world exclusive coverage of the US Congressional MMO ("omg filibuster rush!!11")? Just like that.

However, it remains that earlier ruminations over a possible NiGHTS sequel on the Wii finally have some corroboration: a preview cover of Swedish gaming mag Gamereactor's April issue promises a world exclusive preview of the oft-rumored update to Sega's cult classic. From what little information that the scurrying agents of the NeoGAF forums have translated, we know that the NiGHTS sequel will be a new title (no worries about some slapdash VC re-release of the original, kids) on a yet unknown platform. While the rumor-machine is pointed very squarely at the Wii, nothing can be said for certain just yet.

Regardless of the platform, this is big news for fans of the classic title. We'll be sure to hurl gobs of information regarding the new NiGHTS as soon as it's made available.

This doesn't surprise me at all, since Sonic Team were working on a motion control for the Saturn for a sequel to NiGHTS. Then the system turned to shit and it disappeared.

This game could make me plug in my Wii though. NiGHTS was the shit on the Saturn!

Yup, SPOnG are a bunch of liars.
Can't wait for this game. Wii certainly needs more big 3rd party titles announced ASAP.

This was reported in the April issue. I know these print mags love to pull crazy shit out of there ass every April issue. But I really hope this is true cuz I played more of my 360 in one week than I have my Wii that I got on launch.

I played it a few times on a Saturn a long while ago and enjoyed it considerably. Just couldn't afford my own Saturn, which turned out to be a good thing as we all know. I say that a Night's sequel would fit well with the Wii. They could also put the original on the disc as an added bonus so people can actually say that they have played it.

too little too late for me

game was needed long ago, just doing it now is just milking the name with no doubt just a mediocre product in the end.

another magazine using the GMR design? That magazine only lasted a year or two, but it's design has lived long enough to see a NiGHTS sequel!!

who else got GMR? anyone?

3 game sequels I'm always immediately skeptical about when they pop up in news: Nights, Duke Nukem, and Mother(US versions).

I'm wondering the same thing, i've got Zelda but I must have missed the 2nd "must have" Wii title.

@ Rainbowblack and kaz

I believe that the second game came down to personal preference. Looking at the games out, it could have been Trauma Center, Rayman Raving Rabbids (my pick), Metal Slug Anthology, WarioWare, or Sonic and the Secret Rings. None of them must-haves, but chances are many people own at least one more. Either that, or they bought a second launch game like Red Steel just for lack of games.

Also, how about a port of the original NiGHTS for any system so I can see why everyone loves it so much?

@Necros:
I chose Warioware as my second game and have to say that, while a bit odd, its really inovative and fun to play WITH OTHERS. Only a couple of the minigames are fun to play by yourself, block balance (one of my favs) is kinda like a tetris game cept you have to balance diff shaped blocks on a platform using the wiimote. Is Rayman worth buying? and have you played Trauma Center?

Interestingly enough, NiGHTS was a 2D game with some flavor(side scroller). I loved it much, would be sweet to play a re-make, not sure about a sequel though. I still have my Saturn and crank on that game every now and then.

@iraf

I'm sure you wont ever read this as the thread is two days old now, but I come here and defend SPOnG from the inter-tube ass-hats who blindly accuse us of being full of shit without having any reason to make the claim besides hearing that we are full of shit elsewhere. I do this in other places as well when it crops up.

As for why Dtoid, cause I love the site and check it frequently.

I'm not advertising. The reason I did it in this thread is because the previous "NiGHTS" rumor thread had like ten people shitting on SPOnG in it and saying it was BS if it came from us. If Niero doesn't like it hes knows how to tell me. ;)
