You know that
we've been keeping our eyes on Sonic Team's
NiGHTs comeback ever since
we heard the rumors of its release earlier this year. There isn't any real new news on that front, and fans are still looking forward to the first sequel in the series, but now we have an official trailer for the upcoming Nintendo Wii game. I don't know if it is the "announcer guy voice" or the movie trailer pacing, but this video is really exciting. It may be that it's simply drawing on fond memories, but who cares?
It has been said before, but the visuals aren't a huge leap over the original Sega Saturn version, but
NiGHTs fans probably don't care, and they do actually
seem to be getting better. From what little we can see in the trailer, the colors and backgrounds do look wonderful. We noticed that the cutscenes seem similar in style to the ones in recent
Sonic duds, but don't let that spoil the fun. We just want to fly, damnit!
Let's hope our E3 team finds out some good news about
NiGHTs: Journey of Dreams directly from Sega at the event.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
That being said, it does look a hell of a lot better, and now, for the first time, I am actually a little excited for it.
I like the looks of it personally.
but the gameplay video makes it look good
from the trailer, I could swear this game is made by Disney.
No shit. That could have been a parody on SNL or MadTV.
Seriously, I know this game has awesome lineage, so I can't wait.
SEGA just butchered the trailer is all.
Of course there is the fact I usually poopoo on most Wii games just because they are on the Wii, so maybe that is what it is holding my excitement back for this game... /shrug, then again maybe not since I bought a Wii a month ago.
If it is, everyone associated should be shot in front of their family.
Wow.
The game looks good, practicly a straight remake of the original, which for those that don't know is a non-exploring, 2D with 3D graphics game that was all about skills.
I played the free Christmas Nights game for probably +20 hours just to unlock all the stuff. Even though it only had one level and two boss fights, it didn't get old because there was always a way to try to beat a level a little bit faster, with a little bit more stuff collected.
If you can spend hours trying to beat your fastest time K.O.'ing Gabby Jay in Super Punch Out, or will replay a level in a good Sonic game just to try to beat it with out losing any rings, then this game is for you.
This though is a slight graphical improvement with a bland watered down version of a game that has had it's edge knocked out of it through a medicore design team - think Mariokart 64 compared to the Super Famicom classic.
"It has been said before, but the visuals aren't a huge leap over the original Sega Saturn version"
I hope that was a joke... similer in style yes but it looks way better than a saturn game :/
that fuckin voice over though, how does that sort of thing get past its first audience? i mean. for fucks sake.
Say, the voice of Richter Belmont from SotN, perhaps.
Well any-who, I guess my not being familiar with the original resulted in my rather lukewarm attitude toward the new NiGHTS... I mean, it looks fun, but is it really all THAT great?
but srsly , lion king was the best movie evar.
Actually, that would be kinda awesome. And check out Justice's blog for a gameplay trailer, good looking stuff.
I guess to appeal to the modern hardcore audience, they could have added some decapitations, a cover system, and made it a free-roaming crime sim.
