About as much trouble as they would have getting to it on Wii.

They did write on Twitter that they felt that they had to get it out ASAP, and that the console version is next up in the pipeline. Then again, Cave Story did take forever to come out ...
So many? Super Meat Boy, Explodemon, and? I don't recall more potentially notable WiiWare releases getting cancelled so this will be what, the third? Hardly many but hey, spin that sensational wheel, spin spin spin! Pretending Wii has no third party support, no games outside Mario, and is slowly withering away to be replaced by next month never goes out of fashion in the gaming media. As for La-Mulana, it's on track and has an active blog, nothing at all indicates any change of plans.
I'm impressed that you've managed to take the frustration of waiting years for a Nicalis game, then watching it get delayed, then wondering if it's turned into vaporware... and spin it to sound like something positive.

There have been a lot of canceled WiiWare games; Eternity's Child, Squibs Arcade, Puzzle Agent, Mecho Wars, Butterfly Garden, the recent Earthworm Jim remake, that pole dancing game, and a whole lot more. I don't blame you for not remembering them all, as it's rare that developers just come out and say that these games have been canceled. They tend to just let them fade away.
And for the record, I'm rooting for WiiWare as much as the next guy (much more than the next guy, actually) but I'm not going to blind myself to the fact that a lot of developers have been quite disappointed with the sales of their WiiWare games, and that they've been jumping ship of late.

From their blog, it looks like the Nigoro guys are having a hard time getting it approved by nintendo/debugging.

I was just assuming it wouldn't be on Steam since Saira isn't. That could (hopefully) change though.
When you include games like Eternity's Child in your so called "notables" (as I mentioned in my comment you responded to) list it's obvious you're grasping. That is all.

I really don't like Nicalis. Or at least, what they've done so far. The Cave Story port was the most atrocious cash-in. The music really wasn't written with any appreciation for the source material and the translation was so literal that it didn't really sound good in the English language. The port was also pretty darn buggy, especially considering all the years they had to work on it. Not only that, they (allegedly) gave Pixel a pittance for his work, while they now own the rights to Cave Story.
I'm also a big fan of Nifflas. I just hope that this and their upcoming La-Mulana port actually do those games and those developers justice.

@ Dr Awesome- I think you would feel differently if you knew the guys at Nicalis. They really put their heart and soul into the WiiWare version of Cave Story, because they are very much fans first. That's why they worked so hard to put the game out for some many years, despite their limited resources.
They also consider Pixel to be a part of their team, which is why the translation turned out the way that it did. They worked along side Pixel on every part of the port, especially the translation. The fan translation is great too, but the truth is, the WiiWaree version is the closest to what Pixel's original vision was.

Knytt Stories is one of my favorite games ever. I love exploration titles and the atmosphere and feel of his games are so pleasurable and immersive. I've been waiting for these titles to come to Wiiware as well and if they do, I'll get them first day. I really hope they do. If not, I have PC but still. It'd be nice.

It's a real shame people still feel that way despite all the work that was put into that game. The guys at Nicalis love Cave Story and it's sad to hear people bash it when they don't know the effort that went into it.
