In Japan it's called NieR. In North America, it's called NIER. Don't ask me why, it just is. Everything about this game is weird. Like the fact that we get one version of the game, but Japan gets two different versions, one starring a slightly younger incarnation of the game's main hero. Bizarre game, and one we can enjoy on April 27.
Yep, that's the release date given to us by Square Enix, along with the clarification on the new way to spell it. The game's looking like my kind of bag, so I'm really looking forward to checking it out. And no, it's not just because it features a sexy lady with boy-parts.
That definitely helps, though.

"Kaine:
A scantily clad, NPC swordswoman accompanying Nier, she has drawn media attention for being a hermaphrodite.[6] Kaine became intersex following possession by a demon, which also gave her a disposition towards swearing constantly.[7] Though originally rumored to be a character exclusive to the Japan-only NieR RepliCant, the third trailer for NIER[8] showcases an audio-only monologue of Kaine berating Nier's book companion, Weiss."

A CHALLENGER APPEARS!
It's not actually a SquareEnix RPG. It's a Cavia-developed, SE outsourced it, action game. I'd actually say it's a hack-and-slash.
The main character is actually male. The hermaphrodite is your sidekick. Both games are actually the same game, for some reason the company decided to make one game that appealed to western games(Main character is older beefcake male looking for cure for his daughter) and one that appealed more to easter gamers(Main character is young scrawny probably gender confused boy looking for cure for his sister).
Did you even read the article? Or better yet, the comments?
We most certainly are getting the hermaphrodite. We've known this months, actually.
That "thing" is a massive shade, one that Kainé has a definite and justifiable grievance with. You'll just have to play it to find out what!
