Quantcast

gamers.jpg Normally I'd pass on some number-crunching geek study, but this one actually can prove quite useful -- especially when engaged with fanboys or gaming outsiders. You can look at the full results here, or just check out what I've selected as the most interesting (shown below). • 59%: US gamers who own a PS2. • 33%: US gamers who own an Xbox. • 30%: US gamers who own a GameCube. • 15%: percentage of active gamers who own an Xbox 360. • 7%: percentage of active gamers who owned more than one console or handheld in 2005. • 16%: percentage of active gamers who own more than one console or handheld in 2006 to date (increase spurred by PSP and DS, which offer distinct gameplay experiences, according to Nielsen). • 14 hours per week: time spent playing console games. • 17 hours per week: time spent playing handheld games. • $16 per week: money spent on games by active gamers (this figure is included in the above entertainment spending). • 13 out of 55 hours: time spent on games out of total leisure time. • 56%: percentage of active gamers who play online. • 64%: percentage of active gamers who play on PC. • 5-7 hours per week: time spent on social gaming (led by teenagers). • 40%: percentage of active gamers who are teens (largest overall group). • 2 to 1: ratio of men to women in overall gaming universe. • RPG buyers—who are mainly comprised of teens—are the most likely to pre-order a desired RPG title or buy it on the day of release. • Better graphics and "richer gameplay experiences" will drive active gamers to adopt new consoles. • PC-based online gaming is making a “comeback,” according to the study, as the platform caters to the casual and the core with a wide variety of games. Any numbers here that seem out of the ordinary to you? Anything you're shocked to see?
