If you follow hockey, you’re probably aware that many NHL teams have “third” or “alternate” jerseys, in addition to their standard home and away sweaters. In fact, each of the league’s 30 current teams have introduced a third jersey at one point, except for the New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings. NHL 09 has, until now, used placeholders for teams that would have third jerseys in the game; not all teams had revealed their alternates for the 2008–09 season until recently.
Hockey fans could track the unveilings of teams’ third jerseys on sites like icethetics; the last team to show off its alternate jersey was the Boston Bruins (they did so on November 24th). Now, after a long wait, EA has put the jerseys into NHL 09, and you can unlock them by entering a simple code in the game’s “My NHL 09” menu (accessible from the main menu). Here’s the code, as posted on the EA forums early today (it works on both PS3 and 360):

I entered the code this afternoon, and was presented with the following message: CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE NHL® 09 ALTERNATE JERSEYS. For those of you who are too lazy to enter the code yourselves, next week’s roster update will add the sweaters automatically. Enjoy!
