Tekken Zaibatsu, who just happen to be the greatest Tekken site on the web, brings us news courtesy of Famitsu that the PlayStation 3 is going to be seeing a Tekken before the often-hinted-at Tekken 6.
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection is kind of Tekken 5.5. It's a minor upgrade that showed up in arcades a short while after Tekken 5, and was later ported to the PSP where it reigns as the finest game on the system (and the only reason to own the dumb paperweight). Famitsu states that it's going to be available for download on the PlayStation 3 in the near future with upgraded graphics and a new playable character not included in the PSP or arcade version.
T5:DR easily eclipses any of the titles out for the PS3 currently, and it would certainly be a valid reason to pick the system up, especially if they implemented proper online play. Namco, you really upset us all when you let the creator of Katamari Damacy get away with only making 3 titles, and if you screw this up, you'll see me burning Pacman effigies in the streets.

That assuming you give a rats ass about Tekken, never been that impressed with it myself. So far there's nothing out or coming out for the PS3 that justifies the price for me. I did order the new Zelda for Wii and few days ago, now I just gotta find a Wii... :(
T5:DR is the best Tekken to date. It adds so much that it's practically Tekken 6. Three new characters (as many as other sequal releases), tons of new stages, a bunch of new moves, the characters are more balanced, and a lot more custom equipment for characters.
Now, what keeps it from being labled a sequel is that no new game mechanics have been introduced since T5.
What this bit of Namco news is telling me is exactly what I've been trying to tell Tekken fans in other forums; Tekken 6 is a LONG way off.
Namco needs to put something out in the space between or we'll all forget about the series. Also, as an added bonus, T5:DR on the PS3 MIGHT just resurrect the decaying Tekken tourny scene since the PSP is a horrible machine to host tournies on.
I'm actually very excited that DR is coming to PS3 as it means I might actually get to PLAY OTHER PEOPLE in DR! And by the time it comes out for PS3, there might actually be valid reasons to buy one.
Sure, DR is the best game for PSP (Loco Roco in close second), but the PSP is NOT a system meant for fighting games. Handhelds in general have never done well in the genre and the PSP is no different.

I really am getting Tekken Tag vibes from this announcement. Oooh, and if they add the tag mode back into DR before its release, that would be top notch!
