Next Legend of Zelda on Wii, will be shown at E3 photo

GoNintendo somehow managed to stay awake through Satoru Iwata's quarterly financial reports briefing, a feat I would probably not have been able to accomplish. Good thing, too, as the President of Nintendo confirmed that the next iteration of Zelda on Wii would be shown at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

It's no secret that I'm not a fan of the series when it goes 3D, but I at least managed to finish Twilight Princess. Whether that's down to the shiny newness of the Wii or an actual statement on the quality of the game isn't something I've given a whole lot of thought to, but I know that I'll at least wind up playing another game.

Hopefully, I'll be playing it at E3. We don't know whether the game will be playable on the show floor or if there will be hands-off demos of it yet, but I'm hoping for the latter -- if for no other reason than being able to play it just long enough to hate 3D Zelda again and move on with my life.

And while I've enjoyed all the 3-D Zelda games (besides Majora's Mask), I have to agree that 2-D Zelda > 3-D Zelda.

You mean you didnt like the ocrina of time? That is like the greatest game of my childhood. I played through it recently and it still rocked. Except for the water temple!

Can't wait. I love TP, flaws (link is right handed wtf?) and all. E3 can't come soon enough, because no matter your feelings on the Navi, silent protagonists etc its a new eff'n (console) ZELDA!

Let's hope you aren't writing an impressions piece on it, then, considering you already don't like the unreleased game.

Mystwalkers new game announcement has already proven to me that: 1) There's not enough temptation in the world to make me buy another Wii and 2) I clearly have no reason to continue owning an Xbox360 either.

I'll probably keep it around and use it to trade in toward a Wii HD or a PS4 someday.

Surprise, surprise. Ninty had no choice but to show off the game at E3 by this point. As a proud member of the roughly 50% of Dtoid who wholeheartedly loved Twilight Princess,(although TP<TWW) I await the upcoming news with baited breath.

Man, 50% of DToid has shit taste... or never played Ocarina of Time, thus not realizing they were playing an "upgraded" version of it with TP.

I don't even want to watch E3 this year, last one was boring the one before that was boring and the one before that was boring.

what happened to the E3 of 1989 when they really didn't talk at all and just showed off next years games???

Nintendo has been the worst out of the three mainly to talk a lot about how they are making money and that everyone wants a wii how happy that makes them feel, but when Reggy talks about that for 2hrs it gets really really really really long and boring.

then at the end of a 2-3 hour talking segment they show 5-10 minutes of game clips and they are done.

its like E3 they are selling hardware to the Software developers and not paying attention to the people that really made the hardware successful, and that really makes me want to pay $50 for game.... LOL not!!!

@VGFreak: "Ninty had no choice but to show off the game at E3 by this point."

one could've said the same thing about Pikmin 3 and last year's E3.

now that this has been confirmed for E3, I am ridiculously excited for this year's E3. it's gonna be good, I just know it! :D

@ dantle piece: How exactly do plan to feel nostalgic about a brand new game?

Twilight Princess had a fair bunch of flaws, but the most glaring one to me was the exclusion of a certain monster who previously was honoured with the "perfect attendance" award. Therefore, Octoroks or GTFO.

You do have a point, although to be fair, Pikmin doesn't really get the same amount of hype as a full fledged 3D console Zelda. Considering the fact that this one's supposed to come out this year, I thought it was inevitable.

@dip
Liking a game which has a 95 on Metacritic, (not to say that we should use Metascores to determine a game's worth, but its safe to say that a lot of people liked it) hell, liking a game AT ALL makes me have shit taste?

I REALLY don't understand how or why people dislike TP. Hell of a game.

I don't understand why people ask for NEWNESS at Zelda and just get hyped at God of War III, a game that's gonna be more of the same with super grpahics, HD epicness and shit. Zelda has invented things as a franchise. Others have not. So shut the fuck up you "snobish" people.

@ lateralest: I agree with you people like to pick and choose what game series they want to pick on for being samey and which they want to congratulate for being samey, but God of War is a series with 3 games (2 on PS2 and 1 on PSP if I remember correctly) while Zelda Wii is going to be the 16th game in its series. I think Twilight Princess was a great game but I don't blame people who rip it apart for being the same old thing.

Same as what half the comments (the positive half) said. As for TP it's main fault was a slow pace IMO but besides that it was pretty damn solid. It's almost ironic but i remember that someone here said that people cried for an oldschool Zelda after Z:TWW and when people got it they only seemed to focus on it's faults, therefore Nintendo failed no matter what.

@koehler83: Spoken like a true PS3 fandamentalist

@Zimmerman: really? no 3D Zelda at all? well, here's to hoping this one changes that.

@EdgyDude: Yeah, and I can't offer a rational explanation for it. It's one of the few instances where I can wholly admit that I have a completely prejudiced opinion on a game. I've tried to play just about every Zelda game ever released. The 2D titles, either on console or handheld, captivate me.

The exact opposite is true of the 3D games. I get an hour or so in and I'm just done. I just feel a loathing when I play them and I can't even begin to justify why. I know I should love them and, yet, I cannot.

Still, I ever try.

@Poe: Yeah man, you're absolutely right. But I think that for a new or relatively new franchise like god of war it would be more easy to innovate in anything. Zelda innovated from Zelda I to Zelda II to Ocarina to WW, for example, and then TP was pretty much the same and everyone was like "HATE". It's OBVIOUS that Zelda wii can't change EVERYTHING on Zelda, because you cannot ask an OLD franchise to just remake itself when it has some tradition and some already tried formulas that make a game what it is. And, on the other hand, I really don't think TP was the SAME as Ocarina; it was much fast - paced and more story - driven. That's not a HUGE change, but WW was not a huge change either (even if it was more different); TP and WW take different concepts from Ocarina and take them to another level. WW takes the travel and open - world thing to make something new out of it, and TP just follows the line of the beautiful and epic design with overwhelming temples and stuff. I think haters of TP were and are overreacting, and that they are and will overreact with zelda wii2.

"Majora's Mask was awesome, what are you on about?"

A-fucking-greed. I don't get why it gets so much hate. The three day system was great, especially if you slowed time down, which I don't think a lot of the haters knew you could do. I still prefer it to OOT, just because it's so unlike any other Zelda game.

I'd kill for another game away from Zelda, Ganon, and Hyrule, like Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask.

I didn't say I wanted to feel nostalgic about it, I said I wanted to feel the same way nostalgia makes me think I felt about ocarina of time. As in, I wanna have as much fun with this game as I remember having with OOT the first time I played it.

hmm.. yeah, I like the Old Zelda version, however, this is yet to prove a point. I havent seen the game itself, but based on the graphics, I find the old one more pleasing. Well atleast for me. Truly, a different online experience. Speaking of experience, cigarette electronique could provide this for you.

TP was decent but didn't get close to my love of WW. I really don't know what they can show that will make me believe the game will be any good. I felt like TP looked like the greatest thing to ever happen and playing it was much different.

I saw the trailer and it looks good. Different style, but it's still the same game that everyone has grown to love. I'm assuming they got a new design team and a freelance content writer in to draft the new story.
