Next Deus Ex likely called Deus Ex: Human Revolution photo

If we were to guess, we'd say that Square Enix's and Eidos' Deus Ex 3 has a name now -- Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

It's a safe bet, considering that Square Enix filed a trademark for that name in Europe. And then in North America. Human Revolution it is, then.

Deus Ex 3 was announced as a PC only title, but rumors and speculation point to the it making its ways to consoles as well.

Not saying anything new here, but I'm really hoping this turns out well. I will go to the grave saying that Deus Ex is my favorite franchise, and every report I hear about it points in different directions as to how they may be taking the gameplay/narrative.

@accideentalprone88 - They tried that, it was called Project: Snowblind. Its barely even worthy of beer coaster status.

Keep multiplayer the fuck out of DX, thanks.

If this doesn't come to consoles I will be severely depressed.

I don't have the money to attempt to restore my PC to working order, nor do I want to. After all, Invisible War was pretty good on Xbox. Never got around to The Conspiracy on PS2 though. And the first could have easily been brought over too.

On the one hand it's been a while since we've seen a game really push PCs and use them as an advantage. On the other hand I want to be able to play it.

Not to be some PC elitist, I do mostly play on consoles, but Deus Ex is a game that can only really be done justice on a PC. It is just too complex to both be adequately implented to a console control scheme and UI and to be appreciated by the majority of the userbase without being dumbed down. It'd be sad to see another great complex PC be bought down to appeal to the masses for the sake of profit.

PC only, please. Deus Ex deserves better than a generic watered down sequel.

Again.

I played the original on PC, Invisible War on the Xbox, and I thought the Xbox handled that game fine.

I'm almost affraid to say this but I enjoyed Deus Ex Invisible.

I didn't play the original prior to playing IW so maybe that helped me appreciate it.

That said I really hope don't don't "streamline" (pronounced: dumbdown) the experience even more. Well here's hoping.

There was a misconception about it being PC only based on a bad article or something, but that was cleared up ages ago. Youl'd have to be an idiot to think this was going to not be on consoles... or that it was going to be any good.

It really pisses me off when I hear people say that consoles and/or console gamers are too simple or dumb to handle this game or that game.

When DX: Conspiracy (which was the first one, fyi RenegadePanda) came out on PS2, you know how much they had to dumb it down so us poor mongoloid console gamers could understand it? Not one jot. Sure, they had to re-design the UI so it worked when you didn't have a keyboard full of buttons at your disposal, but they did an excellent job. Every feature from the PC version (as well as stuff like GREATLY improved visuals) was present and accounted for on the PS2, and the only trade-off was more frequent loads. I've played the original on PC and PS2 and I prefer The Conspiracy, hands down.

Anyway, here's hoping for a 360 version of DX:HR. I promise all you PC elitists, us console gamers will be able to handle the complexity just fine.

Okay, sorry about the double-post, but I just re-read that and realized how confrontational it sounded, which was not my intent. I've got nothing against PC gaming/gamers, I'm just tired of being looked down on because I prefer console play.

At the end of the day, we're all just gamers, looking for quality gaming experiences. Here's hoping DX:HR is one of them, regardless of platform.

Yes, Deus Ex was ported from the pc to the console. That's not the issue. The issue was Deus Ex 2 which was developed for all platforms. And you could tell. Universal ammo, claustrophobic maps and whatnot

The original Deus Ex didn't sell so hot on the PS2 so they dumbed it down for the sequel because the market shifted.

Not trying to ruin your parade but you are the exception.

A few years ago, I would have shared some of the above commenters' trepidation about multiplatform development. I definitely felt like the Xbox destroyed DX2.

But if a game like Fallout 3 (which actually reminded me of DX in some respects) works perfectly fine on consoles (it does), I don't see why DX3 can't work just as well.

Really, I think the essence of DX was strong, engaging plot and dialogue, and an emphasis on player freedom in approaching various obstacles. I don't see why that can't be achieved on any and every platform.

Guess what? The original Deus Ex is one of my favorite games of all time, and I still loved Invisible War. And to all those multitudes who say it was dumbed down tripe, I say this: you have forgotten what made the original game great. Hint: it wasn't having different ammo types or being able to allocate points to skills (half of which were useless anyway). Also, I'll fight you.

Anyway, I hope that this new one will be as great as the series deserves, and hope that it will hit the 360, because I want to play it, damn it. I bought the original game the week it came out and it's been one of my favorites since then. Should I be denied playing the new one because I'm a Mac user and can't presently afford to buy a new computer for just one game?

PC elitists make me fucking sick.

I played DX on PC, great game. You could map all of the important stuff to a controller and streamline the control scheme without touching the content of the actual game - nowadays, that's not hard to imagine. The PC was the only place to get games like this...BACK IN 1999. You old dogs need to get over it, man. The new standard is here, and a purist viewpoint that borders on PC fundamentalism just isn' a healthy mindset to have.

PC "elitists" have a point, albeit possibly misguided. DX on consoles was a little simpler, no question about it... but that could've been a shift in general game releases, not a direct PC vs console comparison. Tougher, more old-school "work it out for yourself" type games are becoming less commonplace, today's games holding your hands perhaps a bit too much.
Don't blame console owners though, blame the games industry as a whole. The industry wants to sell as much as possible to as many people as possible, so to capture an audience less experienced with games, they have to make the entry requirements a bit more attractive: a single (relatively) cheap piece of hardware, no configuration issues, guarentees your games will all run, and shallower learning curves into the games.
Hell, many gamers (me included) about 10 years ago wanted more recognition for the videogames industry, and for it to blossom forth out of its niche position. It has now done so. The consequence: a lower common denominator. Bugger.

I don't play on PCs these days as I don't have the money nor justification to get the best kit out there. I'm very happy with the 360, but I would relish a more PC-centric game to be released on it. Fallout 3 is a fine example, as Comrade Snarky said.

This should probably be a PC exclusive.

I know that would rule out everyone who doesn't have a gaming PC (including myself), but it would probably be better for most of us in the long run. Mixed feelings.

New to the Destructiod community, I stumbled upon the site and saw the honesty involved in the non-review of Demon's Souls. I loved that... so hello everyone.

That being said, I loved Deus Ex and I am excited on the prospects of a new one, if it is done correctly. The last one released was not a great game. So hopefully they go back to the RPG elements that made the original so good in my opinion.

I agree with Comrade Snarky's view that the essence of Deus Ex is in story, setting, dialogue, choice, and so forth, while disagreeing with the view that the Xbox ruined Deus Ex 2. I realize that a lot of people will disagree with me on this, but I thought that Invisible War did a great job following up on the story and possible outcomes of the first game in an incredibly satisfying way, by placing considerable emphasis on the longer term consequences of the different endings. I found the story and setting to be at least as original as the first game, and, in many respects, more intelligent.

My point is that the parts of the game that really matter were anything but "dumbed down." Whether you liked the direction that Invisible War took with the story and characters, or the overall tone or the choices or any of that, is largely a subjective matter. So, if you hated the second game because it had a simpler inventory system or whatever, then I'm wondering what even attracted you to the first game to begin with. And, if you hated it because of the story, then fine-- but stop insulting the intelligence of console players just because a certain game sequel didn't suit your taste.

I certainly can't imagine how it would be desirable for a large number of Deus Ex fans to be unable to play the new one. Like the whole tree in the woods thing: if a great game is made and I can't play it, does it even matter? Not to me it doesn't. I mean, good for you if you get to play it, but is it really fair to say that a whole consumer group doesn't deserve to play it just because you or some corporate focus group think you know better than gamers what types of games they enjoy playing?
