New Zealanders, you're about to get raped. GamePlanet has revealed that EA is finally sending Rock Band to New Zealand, but it's not going to be cheap.

A copy of just the game is going to cost about $87 on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. The Drum Kit will cost around $131, the Wireless Guitar will go for about $73 and the hardware bundle will run for around $220, which includes the drums, wireless guitar, mic and NO game. The PS2 version of the game will cost $73 while the hardware bundle will go for the same price with no individual instruments for sale on the PlayStation 2.

To make matters worse for New Zealanders, the upcoming Rock Band shipment looks to be the only one that will be coming, so stock will be extremely limited.

I think the header image pretty much shows exactly how I feel about this piece of news. Sux 2BU, New Zealand.

[Update: Fixed the pricing confusion.]

Well at least they don't deal with the complaints about gas prices!

Always looking on the positive side.

Hmmm... I was going to point out the typo as well, but ANC makes an excellent point.

I almost dont want to support them, buy 3rd party instruments and go through all the trouble of modding my brothers 360 and pirating the game... almost. Unfortunately its a complete must buy (assuming we can get the dlc immediately). At least out whole flat wants in, between 4 of us it wont be so bad.

WTF? New Zealand is getting this before Australia?
It is clearly time for us to invade.

Wouldn't it be better to just buy it on Amazon (for the PS3 at least, given that the 360 version is region locked)? It is considerable cheaper that way. Like $200 cheaper.

@cainball:

I suspect Oz and NZ will get it at the same time and it just hasn't been announced yet.

The problem with buying it from Amazon is that i'm not sure they'll ship something that big to this side of the world. It's a great idea though, Play-asia might be the way to go to.

@ The Toilet Duck

Unfortunately, Play Asia haven't had the full Rock Band set for the longest bloody time. I could buy the game and the wireless guitar separately on Play Asia, but then it would be practically the same as Guitar Hero, which I already have for the 360.

Having said that, I love Play Asia- I buy the majority of my stuff from there. Being an Aussie gamer means I get continually reamed by the gaming companies and the stores if I buy locally. I looked at buying FFIV for the DS today- I saw it in Kmart for $90.

The most important piece of equipment for a Aussie gamer is a bottle of lube.

Being a New Zealander I'm not surprised. We always end up with turbo rape prices for games. Especially for ones with hardware.

Maybe we can avoid using the word "rape" in this context?

Crying bears are funny. Rape is not funny.

Seeing as how 1 New Zealand dollar is worth about $055 in American currency that would mean that rock band is going to cost about $192 in American funds. Meaning that they are paying about $22.00 more then the suggested US retail price. With the extra shipping costs and what not it is not really that much of an issue. They are paying the same as everyone else. Did you not think about that when you wrote your article?

Whoops, do not know where I got $350 from. Even @ $380 the price is still reasonable with sending it to the other side of the globe.

@gaspain:

No, 380 is not reasonable. We don't live in the middle ages, the otherside of the world isn't that big a deal anymore.
