While difficult to say and spell, upcoming PSP strategy role-playing game Yggdra Union is easy on this RPG lover's eyes. Some may remember that this game was originally a Game Boy Advance title back in 2006. It has been reworked for the PSP, with widescreen gameplay, new visuals and audio. It also sports new missions, more options, unlockable content, multiple endings and more.
If you never gave the original a spin before, know that this is a turn-based strategy game that uses a card-battle system mechanic. It made for a very unique and impressive game that somehow missed the radar of many gamers. We're glad that Atlus is giving it another go with this upgrade.
We've just received our preview copy, and we're blasting through that now. You'll have to wait for our review, but this screenshot gallery might help hold you over until then.
Check out the freshly launched official Web page for more details and the boxart after the jump.
Did you ever play the original? Does this look interesting to you, SRPG fans?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I've heard around that the difficulty has been tooled down from the original version, with a hard version being the GBA difficulty. But yeah, awesome game, buy hard as fuck!
The game's not hard at all once you adapt to how it's supposed to be played. If you try to play it like FFT or Disgaea, you are going to die fast and horribly. The system is radically different form other SRPG systems, and so you can't use it like other systems in the same way that you can't play Street Fighter the same way you play Tekken. It just doesn't work.
@Kif: The name is based on Yggdrasil which is an actual Norse word.
@SourGr8pes: Yes, there is an easy mode. There's also a permanent Scythe user that can join your army that makes the game somewhat easier. But it should also be said that the new Hard mode is actually harder than the old version of the game, since they changed up a lot of the card effects to give some enemies more advantages(For instance, Mizer is actually a threat now, as opposed to being little more than a joke enemy)
And Dale? Freshly launched? The site's been up for about two months now.
Hurrah for beautiful 2D SRPGs by Atlus!
