New Xbox 360 Wi-Fi adapter is coming photo

Zune HD video to Xbox 360 streaming is going to cost you. According to Gizmodo, the forthcoming update that allows 1080p video to be streamed from the Zune network to the Xbox 360 will require an 802.11n network -- a network that the current wireless network adapter can’t connect to. Microsoft planned for this and has developed a brand new wireless adapter to get around the network issue.

The FCC is currently playing with with bunny-eared adapter, testing it to see if it has the ability to melt our brains, turn us into zombies, or whatever else the FCC does with upcoming tech stuff.

There is a small workaround here. If you don’t want to stream Zune HD stuff wirelessly, you can simply connect your Xbox 360 directly to a router. That kills the need for the adapter, which will probably cost at least as much as the current one.

No word on when this thing will hit, but we’re guessing we’ll know soon.

Yeah, plug it in. Nobody will buy it again if they have a 100$ one already.

Knowing Microsoft, it will probably cost more than the current one at $100. I'd love to know how much they'll charge for the 250GB hard drive if they sell it separately., which of course they will. It will probably cost $250 from knowing what the ridiculous price of the current 120GB one is right now!

$100 is for the Wireless "G" model. Since this one supports "N", it will probably cost $130. People are better off with a wireless bridge instead of of paying the 'Soft's premium prices.

Pretty ridiculous how they think $100 is worth not having a cord connect device to device. I just plug my 360 into my laptop and bridge my wireless connection to it. Works just fine, $100 still sitting in my wallet for that.

Also, PS3 fanboys incoming in 3...2...1...

Microsoft would probably increase their Zune sales if they sell the Wi-Fi adapters cheap or even give them away for free for every Zune purchase.

Yeah, the current wireless adapter for the 360 is a HUGE ripoff to consumers. I mean, in comparison to how much is actually cost to make the unit, I can almost assure you that it cost less than $30 for M$ to make the 360 wireless adapter.

I sadly don't have a laptop or another alternative to bridge a wireless connection. So I had to either get a wireless adapter, or 300 ft worth of cable. And now, looking back, I could of got the giant spindle of cable for less.

Patience is a virtue kids.

There are plenty of alternative adapters around, for example:

This is one of the reason I never bought a 360. I certainly am not paying for something that is both built in to the Wii and PS3 for free, and I have to use wireless so I would be forced to feed the pig.

Damn I forgot 360 has no wi-fi :( I need wi-fi...

So now the total cost for a 360 for me is $450 for an elite w/o a game and 1 year of live, or $550 with an extra controller, MW2, and still just 1 year of live.

Where's the love at?

a 50ft ethernet cable cost about an average of $10-$15 and much more reliable than any other wireless technology.

Forget an adapter, just guy a second router, stick some DDWRT or Tomato firmware on it and let it bridge multiple devices at once.

I agree with Redzie, but for those of us for whom that is a wishful pipedream a network bridge is my second best friend.

I have no idea what you just said, something about throwing a tomato at my router. I do know my AT&T internet dude who came said I couldn't have 2 routers in my house at once, now I must mention the tomato to him.

I think I know what you're saying though, joking aside. Clever, however that's still some $$ I don't wanna spend.
