You know developers mean business when they bring the name of the latest installment in a popular series back down to the basics. As is the case with Wolfenstein, which was the focus of discussion for much of episode 52 of GameTrailers TV.
Wolfenstein delves into the paranormal with an alternate dimension called the Veil, offering an explanation as to why you are suddenly able to slow down time, and to of course keep the narrative interesting.
Highlights from the episode include a weapon that allows players to disintegrate foes called the Particle Cannon, and while there's no Hitler to be found this time around, Raven Software is giving fans an arguably better enemy with Despoil, as seen above. Uh, you have my attention now, guys.
Hit the jump for the "Occult" trailer, which tells a portion of the Wolfenstein story from the Nazi perspective.
Make sure you check out the full episode of GTTV -- many, many more specifics are detailed in comparison to what's revealed in this trailer.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

The narrator must be Wilhelm Strasse from Return to Castle Wolfenstein. He created monsters using bioengineering and cybernetics, but hated the occult. I can't see him taking part in some of the craziness that occurred in the trailer though. He does survive RtCW AND he even warns Himmler to watch out for Blazcowicz in the future.
I didn't know this was a sequel at first, but it's nice to see the tie ins. :)
Does every FPS require a time slowing mechanic now? Are people just that bad at them these days? Raven usually makes passable games, but I don't think they've made anything genuinely interesting since Heretic II. This doesn't look like it'll do anything to buck that trend.
Yeah that'd be great but nothing about this game looks pulpy or funny at all. It looks more like FEAR meets Nazis. I mean the main character (who is not BJ Blaskowitz, fuck that) is some generic poser running around in a leather jacket.
I wish this game were over the top and awesome, but I'm sure it will be anything but.
I'm not feelin' it. RTCW had the occult, sure. However, it wasn't the only theme of the game, and the majority of the game is spent fighting normal enemies in normal settings. The multiplayer sounds like a huge waste of time for any RTCW/Wolf ET fan as well. Yet another lazy job by Raven. It looks like they stripped out the essence of Wolfenstein and instead took elements of popular shooters like COD and FEAR to try and rope in casual FPS fans instead of catering to the people that have been waiting almost a decade for this game.
Then again, all I've ever played is Wolfenstein 3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein (as multiplayer LAN). So what do I know?
They're trying to do something new and different with the game and people are freaking the hell out. Would you be satisfied if it was just a clone of one of the past games?
Actually I still think Wolfenstein 3D is the only game that did Nazis "right". All other videogame Nazis never really felt the same. I never really cared much about the zombies in Wolfenstein... robot Nazis: ok. Just needs more normal Nazis shouting hilarious German phrases and less supernatural stuff imo.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Can't say the same for this, though.

Wolfenstein Tides of Blood was one of my most played Xbox games, so good.

Meaning business doesn't automatically translate to delivering, uh, business, so please be careful how loyally you follow that rule.
Wolfenstein's looking pretty sweet, though.
1. Include "damage face" at bottom of screen.
1. Fight Hitler at end of game.
WHY CAN'T THIS HAPPEN?
im too young to have seen it or heard of it.
Holy. Shit. Go get yourself educated on some Wolfenstien 3D, son.
that sounds like fun.
I wish this game were over the top and awesome, but I'm sure it will be anything but.
That's what this trailer felt like to me personally.
Also, NO HITLER!? ARE THEY MAD!?
