A couple of days ago we ran an article that dealt with the possibility that the new Wolfenstein game would be exposed in the August issue of PC Gamer. Instead, it appears that the upcoming issue of Game Informer will have the real scoop on Wolfenstein for the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Among the information scourged is the startling revelation that series’ protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz will possess “supernatural powers." Tiscali were the guys that got their hands on the latest issue and detailed some of the information that the article contains: - Set in World War II among Nazis experimenting with occult powers once again.
- B.J. Blazkowicz making comeback, this time also having supernatural powers of his own.
- Set in one large city, which will open itself up as you progress through given missions and quests.
- Randomly generated content blocking your path at times.
- AI controlled local resistance, assisting you in fight at times.
- An alternative reality called 'The Shroud', some sort of a parallel dimension fueling Nazi powers.
- Will be released ‘when it’s done’
Blazkowicz is going to have supernatural powers? I am nearly in tears from my excitement. One of the more interesting things talked about at GDC a billion years ago was that Wolfenstein was going to take place in a perpetual environment. It looks like id and Raven stayed on task with that. I wonder how this Grand Theft Auto take on Wolfenstein will factor into the Nazi-stomping action that the majority of us love? Furthermore, I hope B.J. can shoot PSI lasers out of his eyes. Please, id?

I can deal with the whole robotic Nazi's and super soldiers...but this alternate reality shit...Eh, Wat?
@ Demios - Hey now, it could be like that Koontz novel with the time-traveling alternate dimension Nazis. That's better than nothing, right?
Yes, one more step closer to Captain America with a gun.
Oh shit that is true, man that book was crazy. Great mention!
Nazi's with Uzi's = War OVER!
Im cool with time travelling but the occult/alternate reality im not so sure about. I mean this should be pretty much a cut and dry shooter.
Basically i don't think a Wolfenstein/Painkiller mash-up would be the best direction for the series that's all.
I hope it is 3rd person- supernatural powers look better in third person
This revelation of an open city with quests has me a little bit skeptical, but I guess change is inevitable and I should embrace it.
Ironically, I must have been pretty naive hoping that they'd make another Wolfenstein game for us old geezers who spent their youth with the old "drinking blood for +1 health" and "oh crap it's the chaingun" and "GUTEN TAG!" Wolfenstein.
*solitary tear drop*
Supernatural powers.. darn tootin' kids and their Bioshocks and story lines.
:P
I'm not really sure about this.
I Loved Return to Castle Wolfenstein... up until the point they introduced Undead Warriors. I mean, I really liked the whole Übersoldat concept and such, but the zombies were a pure miss with me.
Here's hoping that it proves me wrong.
Holy shit, I love Wolfenstin!
AWESOME
YES YES YES.
This sounds awesome in every way conceivable.
a few thoughts
"alternate reality" makes me think of a universe where the Nazis won WW2 or something
the open city thing makes me think this'll have elements of the really old Wolfenstien adventure games
the name B.J. Blazkowicz makes me laugh
"alternate dimension" I mean
Alternate dimensions? Are they going to call this game WOLFENSTEIN 4D? That would be awesome.
None of this bullshit! Wolfenstein is just about shooting nazi's who scream MEIN LEBEN and other german crap. It's not about shooting zombies/robots/robot-nazi's/alternate universe blablabla.
Why not? Because everyone has already played 50 games like that, seen 100 episodes of scifi shows that did the same and those games and shows never had cool, german shouting nazi's. Except for Wolfenstein 3D.
Fix it!
For the record, Professor Pew, Hitler was some sort of robot in W3D. Plus, the whole undead thing in RtCW rocked. That's easily one of my favorite games of all-time.
Regarding B.J. having supernatural powers...I'm a bit undecided as to whether or not I like the idea. I suppose that it could be cool if it was done similarly to special powers in Clive Barker's Undying. I really do hope that the A.I. squad can be controlled cooperatively by another player over LAN or something, though.
As long as they don't do away with B.J.'s kick, I won't bitch too much about the supernatural powers. The kick was just awesome. Three ways to open doors? What's not to love? God, if this game's anywhere close to being as awesome as RtCW, then I probably won't play anything else for months after its release. Oh, and mp_beach, please!
Don't you remember robot Hitler in Wolf 3D? Or the Zombies in RtCW? This is exactly what Wolfenstien is about, and what seperates it from other WWII shooters. I just hope the new "powers" don't make the good ol' MP40 unneeded.
"When It's Done," eh?
I seem to remember another sequel to a popular early-generation PC FPS with that exact same release date....
What I'm saying is you'll probably have plenty of time to grab some bubble gum.
I just want to hear BJ yell "PK FIRE!"
Look, robot-Hitler as a boss is one thing, because the only thing worse than Hitler is a robot-Hitler. Plus it makes him stronger and more logical as a boss. I really hated all the zombie and robot crap in RTCW, I just don't like the direction they are taking good old Wolf3D :)
Professor Pew: There were zombies, mutants and undead things in Wolf3D. You seem to have forgotten them for some reason.
Meh...I wish they'd go back to the more cartoon-like style of Wolf3D
Space Hitler returns!
It first I didn't like the idea of having undead stuff etc, but then again, what else would separate it from other WW2 fps's?
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was a classic game. Some of the prettiest graphics at the time, and some of the coolest story elements. The gameplay was top notch, and never let up!!! I'm feeling all nostalgic just thinking about a new game. I have faith in id and Raven to release a quality game!!
YES. Return to Castle Wolfenstein is an awesome, awesome game. Multiplayer, single player, it had it all. I had more fun with that than I did with CoD4. I'm serious. If this is half as fun as that was, it'll still be a must buy. It's a WW2 game that didn't have anything to do with all the actual battles that all the other WW2 games are about. Plus, zombies, robots, and robot zombies make everything better. Except for comment sections, so sevgim needs to GTFO.
