New WiiWare title Pop announced, simulates all the fun of soap photo

And Nintendo's WiiWare roster continues to grow in the run up to the system's March 2008 launch, adding another new third party title to the announced line-up today. Is it another game from Square-Enix? Is it the Wii's Geometry Wars, the game which will click with millions world-wide and really sell Nintendo's XBLA equivalent to the masses? Is it exciting in any way imaginable whatsoever?

Well no. It's a game in which you pop bubbles. And then you pop some more.

Seriously. Don't be coming to me asking for the big twist or the clever, genre-flipping gimmick that will turn the noble art of bubble popping on its head forever. Bubble popping's what you get. That's all. Bubbles come along and you pop them. You point at them, press A, and they pop. There are some details on the game's site regarding combos, score multipliers and the like, and the ability to inflate the bubbles for extra points and play with up to four people, but essentially it's all about popping those bubbles, and popping them good.

Now hit the jump for a - hopefully very early - trailer which will show you exactly how those bubbles are popped.

This game is a lot like the PS3. I'd play it if it were like, in front of me. But the hell if I'm paying for it.

"Footage from is not representative of final game quality"

Unless they do introduce some mind-blowingly clever gimmick, this unfortunately is representative of final game quality.

Okay, everyone knows how addictive popping the air filled bubbles in bubble wrap is. I imagine this game will induce the same trance like state. You don't know why you are doing it, but you just can't stop.

I've got a horrible feeling that the Wii will probably go down in history as the most understood console of all time, do any developers other than Nintendo, actually get the Wii? I've seen no evidence so far to suggest that they do.

So far developers have treated the Wii as a watered down standard next gen console or a slightly beefed up PS2, both treatments are way off the mark. Now we move on to WiiWare, and developers are already making the exact same mistakes, they are treating it as a watered down XBLA.

i used to spend my days karate chopping bubbles back in the day. this concept could easily be great, but it looks to be on the crap road to boredom.

Yep zardy, you're right. It's bizarre that they're all desperate to get in on it because of how many units it's selling, but that so few seem to ever think about why it's selling so many.

I'm still hopeful that this Winter's big releases from Ninty will give the third parties a kick up the arse though

Come on guys, this looked pretty varied. Sometimes, the bubbles fall down from the top, and other times, they float up from the bottom. Get this: they can even come from the sides. My mind is officially blown.

What. The. Fuck.

This is seriously the stupidest game concept I have ever heard. I can say with reasonable certainty and little bullshit that I could literally make this game in a single afternoon(albeit a PC version), assuming the trailer's the majority of what's to the game.

I simply cannot believe a game developer would release such tripe. Nevermind- Tranformers The Videogame (how I love these amazingly original titles) was released. This is GOTY compared to that piece of crap.

Cheers!

The Wii is a watered down next gen console, watered down for mass consumption.

More and more amazing titles get announced and they all have one thing in common, no Wii version.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll settle for popping bubbles over things like Street Fighter 4 and Bionic Commando.

Looks Flashy! Nothing like an A+++ 3rd-party title like this to show off a brand new indie gaming service!

Would Nintendo ever stoop to this level? Well, given that Link's Crossbow Training and Wii Play are sold at retail, who knows what level of quality the Big N has planned for the service. Apparently, they gave this title the green light, so who knows.

A crap game for the Wii isn't the end of the world. Allow the system to mature, and wii'll see what Wii want. Any gamer here can name a hundred crap games for any platform. Only a cheesy fanboy couldn't.

I don't know what you ruffians are going on about. This game seems to have a complex role-playing aspect in that the diverse storylines the characters have and the intuitive combat system are way out of any casual gamers range of interest. May I also recommend James Pond?

I think its a good concept and agree with Zardoz. If any of you put a piece of bubble wrap in front of some one and they will seek to pop every bubble. This game uses that kind of thinking and I'm sure it would go down well on Wii and DS.

I'd rather spend money on this than Lair anyday.

True, I also think a lot of developers are holding out on Wii, because they want to work with PS3 more. These are dangerous times and with many having invested early in PS3 development, while some have switch to Wii, others might not be able or can't afford to.
