The Legend of Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto believes that recent games in the iconic series have grown a little too complex after years of convolution. As often seems to be the case with venerable franchises, the world famous developer has stated that the upcoming Wii sequel will go back to basics with a more "player friendly" control scheme.
"For us, it is important to the to optimise gameplay and make the controls easier," says Miyamoto. "We do our best to make the controls player friendly, since Zelda has become complicated."
The impish designer adds that the game will be surprising, though he won't say how: "For us, two things are important: to meet expectations and to surprise people. How we do it this time, I will not reveal. Normally, we create the video sequences, and these sequences are expanded. But this time we started with the game structure. And then with the video sequences. So this time it was reversed. Therefore, we have had little so far from the game to show. But will publish a lot close to the game's completion."
So far, all we know about the new Wii Zelda comes from a teaser image. Miyamoto has promised that this image will bear relevance at E3, where the game is expected to get its full reveal. Can you wait? We really can't. At the very least, it'll mean we get a new header image for these stories!

I'll reserve judgement. Player friendly doesn't always mean what I think it conjures up in a lot of our heads. Mine included.
However complicated the Zelda games are not. That's why they maintain their popularity.
Is Zelda getting an auto-attack? I guess simpletons have money too.
Fishing was fun though.
BABEH AVATAR!
I was wondering when you'd change it.
It'll be the Kirby Air Ride of Zelda games.
God help us all.
Some of the interaction between Zelda and Link was a little difficult, though. Perhaps next time some optional 2nd player component could be added for co-upish stuff like that.
Whose expectations though?
I like surprises as long as their pleasent.
LOL.
Wow. No. If you think Zelda is unplayable I have very sad news for you.
What? No, the first Zelda was hardly simple.
After the train wrecks that were the DS Zeldas, I've lost all interest in the series; this isn't doing anything to restore my faith.
There's a saying in there somewhere, something about trying to spread yourself too thinly, or trying to cover too many bases, jack of all trades, something like that.
It's a wierd situation where going after EVERYONE has paid of for nintendo so far, cash wise, but becomming home of the waggle, home of the shovelware, home of the games that play themselves, they may well alienate the actual gamers that made them what they were, ya know, before this who wii thing.
As far as I'm concerned, Nintendo is now a toy company, who's toys happen to be like toy games consoles, not a company i would look to for my gaming needs.
IMHO.
Oh, wait.
I, personally, would like to hear/read some more about what Shiggie's talking about before passing judgement. I enjoyed Twilight Princess (gasp! No, say it isn't so!), even if I thought some of the puzzles were balls-hard, and would love to see more.
Then I realized he wasn't talking about that, and was talking about playability. And Twilight Princess had a far too complicated control scheme for a game like it. It didn't need to be anywhere near that complicated.
I have faith in Miyamoto. Unless the word Wii is in the title.
On another note. I find it kind of strange and pretty fucking stupid to design the video sequences first. Honestly?? What a genious ideo to try it the other way round. I seriously can't believe this... *shakes head*
This is exactly what I hated about Twilight Princess...it held my hand every step of the way. Never did I feel free to think for myself on how to solve something. Every part if every dungeon had the most generic explanation, not to mention the boss fights. I'm hoping this game holds true to the others in the series, but my expectations are not as high.
