New Unreal Tournament 3 details, scans

     Pew pew pew!

If you took our advice and did your part to save the dinosaurs, this is going to be yesterday's news, but nevertheless it didn't stop PS3forum members from posting eight juicy pages of new Unreal Tournament 3 screenshots. The pretty pictures also carry details of the single player campaign from the mouth of Mark Rein and the guy that invented the original Reaver Bot. If you can't stand reading scans online, here's the long and the short of it:

* Robert Ashley knows his sh*t
* Epic Game's building is nondescript outside; their town is blah
* Their motion capture studio can easily accomodate an elephant
* They are rolling in money from Gears of War sales and Unreal Engine licensing
* Epic acknowledges the old UT "space teams a-la Madden" approach sucked
* Half the players that bought the old UT games never played it online
*
Unreal Tournament 2007 will be called Unreal Tournament 3 instead
* There will be Gears-style storyline for the single player campaign
* The plot revolves around an alien interruption of a human tournament
* The game's killer app might be its new tentacle-legged alien vehicles
* The same tools Epic uses to edit the maps will ship with the game for LEGO-like map construction
* Epic hires some map designers from the modding community, so get crackin'!

Eight scans of stuff that you've probably already seen also follow:

Poppycock to anyone that didn't play it online.

2004 is awesome online, and I look forward to this one solely on the fact that it's now HD. If not for that 2004 ain't broken, IMO...

It's almost ridiculous how much I'm looking forward to this game. I'm probably going to need to upgrade my vid card though...time to start saving!

Wait, hold on. I've barely played the game, but isn't the whole point of UT to play online? Who are they playing with otherwise, bots? Since, you know, that's satisfying.

Necros:

I actually spent a significant amount of time with bots when I moved into my college dorm. This was pre-everythingiswiredforbroadband days, so dial-up just wasn't viable.

Anyhow, the single player component of this game should be a lot of fun. They're promising a pretty deep experience, which I'm cool with, because the fact is that I don't get a lot of time to play games online with other people.

My days of yelling at people online are over. That is, of course, until I buy a house later this year. Then, it's on. My family can't hear me cursing at 12-year olds if I'm in the basement.

If your parents love you they will accept that sometimes you need to yell at 12 yr olds, and call them cock suckers or adopted.

i actually didn't mind the single player campeign in the dreamcast unreal. for some reason, i just got into it. the bots were smart (and this was UT2 maybe?) enough to keep the game interesting. i'm sure their AI has grown in leaps and bounds since then..

This is the shooter I am most excited for on the 360. Fuck Halo, UT is where it's at for multiplayer.

Also, what's up with the Gears style campaign? I hope it's still first-person.

Let me tell you that Im on the half of people that played this online and it was oh so fucking awesome! I remember having my PC recently updated (the same rig I have now) when Unreal Tournament 2004 came for PC and it was easely the best looking game evahhh. I played the crap out of that single player campain multiple times and a month later I got DSL... OMG those Onslaught mode was the only thing I played and it was fun as hell. Having to attack the enemy base with a Leviathan was just awesomeness.

I will play it in X360. Playing this in PC means having to buy a whole new rig becasue none of my current parts are compatible... the vid card is AGP, the ram is DDR, the HDD is ATA... I just could resuse the Power supply, the monitor and the floppy drive... Ill have a perfect version for X360.

BTW I read somewhere that You can use the Map making stuff in consoles and that PC made maps can be played by consoles and viceversa as well as putting console vs PC players. It should be interesting seeing who would win.

Onslaught FTW. UT2004 is the best multiplayer game ever made, except for team fortress

just hope console versions dont have the crazy ping issues gears has with only 8 people

they can call it UT3 all they want... we all know they are gonna be advertising it when it retails like it is Gears 1.5

The fact that there will be a map-creator that an incompetent bastard such as myself can use is exciting for me. I was excited for this game from the start simply because it's looking like a massive rework of what this game has done before. Looks like I'm making a new pc this summer.

James that is just stupid. Gears is using the unreal engine. you think the people who DESIGNED the UT3 engine are going to make a game worse than gears of war? no fing way. Gears of War is UT 1.5 not the other way around

UT is my most favorite FPS of all time, im looking forward to the new game but i will get it for the pc because i like the keyboard and mouse as opposed to the analog sticks. The pc control scheme is much smoother, and the online is usually smoother with the patches and all. Plus my computer is better in terms of the GPU and CPU than the PS3 or 360(besides the fact the PS3 has cell processor, my comp has a bigger cache and more gigs). So im excited for this game to be out.

Unreal is awesome, it's just a shame that the local (Australian) community seems to die down shortly after each release. I'll be damned if I'm not sick of CSS and BF2 wasn't even worth the cost of the pizza I got it with. Please, let's keep the dream alive.

And yes, the "Madden teams" sucked.
