Fresh from of BlizzCon 2011, new information and an amazing new trailer have just been released for the next expansion in the StarCraft II series, Heart of the Swarm.
In the trailer, we get to see a post-Queen of Blades Sarah Kerrigan still clinging onto the fact that a certain Terran Dominion Emperor may have left her for dead on planet crawling with Zerg. No biggie. After donning a new set of Ghost armor, and somehow gaining telekinetic abilities, she starts on a quest for vengeance across the stars. The trailer looks fantastic, and you can tell that Blizzard has been investing a lot of hours into StarCraft II's cutscenes.
On top of all that, the new units featured in this expansion are shown. No word yet as to when Heart of the Swarm will be released, but I for one can't wait to see what kind of destruction this new Kerrigan will cause.
I was underwhelmed by SC II's cliche plot and total mistreatment of characters I loved from the original game and Brood Wars, plus Blizzard's almost routine changing of unit stats. This game doesn't look like it's going to change my opinion much, but there's no denying that a lot of effort and hard work went into this. Not my cup of tea, but it doesn't look bad at all :)
I think Kerrigan is going to be a persistent hero unit in the campaign that gains different specializations similar to how you could specialize in the SC2 campaign. I'm not sure if this changes what units and buildings you can produce though. I'm interested to see how it works out.
Rofl. All this fancy CG overlaid with the usual dumpy looking RTS gameplay always seems like such an odd conflict. I can't think of anything less dramatic than watching combat in these games.
Hated the outfit. I thought we would be playing with the Queen of Blades. Kerrigan in that outfit looks really stupid, she doesn't look as menacing as before. =\

I really hope this launches at 40 bucks or so. 60 dollars will.. divide me.
I might even have to wait until I get a chance to buy it for 40.. or so.
How do you know Mos Def is getting this game...

;)
Still, the campaign was still -lots- of fun. I stand by my claim: Starcraft 2 is the best classic RTS ever made. I'm not sure it's even close.
