Quantcast

So GameTrailers TV made its 2009 debut on Spike TV last night, with exclusive for a few games, as you'd expect. Among them the was the above trailer for Activision's X-Men Origins: Wolverine game, set to coincide with the May release of the film.

Unfortunately, the entire trailer is cinematics from the game -- Hugh Jackman's Wolverine soaks in a tank, and gets into an altercation and messes s**t up. It looks great, it's well-paced, and my soft-spot for the Wolverine character has me jazzed... about the movie.

Personally, I find it hard to get excited about a game whose trailer refuses to show me, well, the game. This teaser for X-Men Origins: Wolverine does just that, giving barely more information than the title of the game suggests. In fact, I'm just upset about the whole thing now, and I need a time out.

Activision will be at New York Comic Con this week, and so we will. I know for a fact that they will be bringin X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but in what capacity we'll have access is unknown. If Activision's press access history suggests anything, it's likely we'll just be watching someone play a demo of the game. Which, now that I think about it, is slightly more interesting than a CG trailer.

"Personally, I find it hard to get excited about a game whose trailer refuses to show me, well, the game."

I get almost no satisfaction out of watching a cinematic for an unreleased game.

Seeing actual gameplay in a demo, however, is probably the best way to comprehensively judge the game - short of playing the demo myself.

I'll give them credit, its a very pretty pre-rendered scene. Unfortunately it probably will fall victim to the video-game tie-in curse.

I don't know if it's a good sign or not, but Gamestop's listing the game with a Mature rating. Could be interesting after coupling that with EGM's write-up.

could we have a movie tie-in that doesn't suck? I think we could.

But goddammit! show some gameplay!

Uhh, Nick, have you seen the trailer for the new movie? Trust me, it's going to suck.

I can imagine it being pretty terrible, but I'd probably give it a go. As it's being released on PC too, I can imagine coming across some really terrible controls.

But I agree, this just makes me want to see the film more. I quite enjoyed the trailer for it.

I read EGM's cover story on this game. From reading the preview, it sounds cool. They went into detail about his regenerating body in the game.

Iron Man looked cool too and look what happened to that though.

More content would be nice, but they showed off some shiny graphics that prove Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine. I'd like to see some in-game content, especially if it's scripted for May - but deadlines are for (another industry) anyway.

The CGI looks excellent, if nothing else.

If you can't be Gambit, this will be a hack and slash with nothing special about it.

The lack of Deadpool footage makes my heart ache.

Every time I hear about the Wolverine movie, I just get nervous about how Ryan Reynolds will handle Deadpool.

Nick, I could swear I've seen you get excited over "other" games with just a teaser trailer, as well. Doesn't seem to be universal. ;)
