Remember that strange, completely random trailer for Corpse Party showing a bunch of school students being killed? Yeah, well XSEED has decided to explain exactly what the game's about in their recent PlayStation Blog post.
Corpse Party is an upcoming horror adventure game coming exclusively to the PSP (only available as a download on the PlayStation Store) with an anime art style. The game has you play as a multitude of characters as they attempt to escape the haunted Heavenly Host Elementary.
One mistake is all it takes to "either immediately or eventually lead you down a path toward one of the game's vast multitudes of 'Wrong Ends,' or bad endings -- generally long, drawn-out and meticulously detailed death scenes." This, along with "squishy sound effects" basically means that this game contains some bloody gruesome stuff.
No release date other than fall of this year has been given.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Think I'll wait for Battle Rape to hit the PSP thank you very much.
Its no different than the old 80's and 90's Sierra games where every single possible death you could think of in every scenario could get you killed. Japanese developers aren't exactly pioneering new stuff there. (How about those death falls because there were no railings? Those added so much to the gameplay /sarcasm)
But if only I didn't lose my PSP!
@Epic-Kx
Probably it's just me, but the generic art-style approach is what makes the gory part all the more scary. I mean, just imagine one moment you're (the main character) talking happily with the huge-eyed, innocent girl and the next you're forced to witness her being mutilated. Just try playing Higurashi and witness Shion/Mion going mad.
Pussified since 2011
Also props to Sony for promoting this game through the PSBlog.
I don't like thinking of children being hurt. I didn't used to care but now that I have a little girl it bothers me...but feeling uncomfortable is the only way to make sure horror hits the mark. Horror isn't supposed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy.
I want to make emotional attachments to these fictional characters, and then feel my heart strings tugged on when they pass away. I want to be terrified to continue because I don't want any of my favorite characters to be harmed. I want to be disgusted by the events that happen in this game, I want those events to be so impacting that it makes me ponder the fragility of human life. I want this game to push the limits, and leave me with so many memorable scenes that It I'll still be thinking about years after I played it.
If this game manages to do any of the things I mentioned, I will be satisfied.
But the thing here is they actually look more like high schoolers than the 25+ years we see in horror films.
Destruction needs to man up
I'm a pussy :(
You can literally shoot kids with rocket launchers
This is the reason why I don't play most modern horror games, there's no real psychological horror to be found. Personally, I don't find overly-detailed descriptions of torturous murder to be scary or creepy, it's just disturbing in the wrong way.
I want to be disturbed by the symbolism, themes, and atmosphere, not just subjected to a slew of gore-porn. But that's just me.
Since... always?
Did you play Sweet Home or Clock Tower? Sure due to tech at the time they were not full of gore, but the concept is full of disturbing and extremely violent ideas. Child Murder and all that.
They're already dead, they just want you dead now.
On topic, I'll probably end up getting this if the reviews ate decent.
i wish more games like this sell well in the west
