New Team Fortress 2 update has no class whatsoever photo

Valve has been releasing information about the newest update for Team Fortress 2 in a trickle. On Tuesday, it was revealed that the latest batch of content would not be featuring a class update. Hence the name, "The Classless Update." Instead, we're getting hats! Oh, and a pretty nifty-sounding community map.

Then, Valve posted again on Wednesday with with the announcement of a King of the Hill gametype being added to the game and three maps to support the mode. In the mode, teams will compete to keep control of a point for a sum total of three minutes. If the point is captured by the opponent, your timer freezes until you regain control.

On the page with the update information, there are navigation arrows for traveling between the two days' info. But the second day has an inactive arrow pointing forward. Sounds like Valve isn't done yet. Hopefully there will be another announcement today!

What's the point of adding more hats when they drop so rarely that only 20 people in the whole game have one? In probably 20 hours of playing since that update I have seen one hat drop, and it wasn't for me.

Bitch at MS not Valve. If MS would stop being so fucking greedy and forcing Valve to charge for the updates the 360 version would be on par with the pc version. But as it stands it looks like Valve would rather you guys not get anything rather than charge you for it.

The point is it sounds like they'll be adding more ways to get hats, if you read into some of the "secret" ads they posted.

It's funny how Xbox get's all the exclusive DLC's and updates, and when there is ONE PC game that might get exclusive content, Xbots pretend like it's the end of the World. Greedy little bastards...but... you can't blame them. M$ raised them.....

Sorry but i dont have a supreme PC to play tf2. I can only play it on the 360...and i love playing it on there. And i wish we could have the updates like our PC counterpart has...It's just that its been promised for more than 2 years that something will go on the consoles and nothing happened. I'm kinda peeved that Valve just wont straight out say that they wont support us And tell us to stick around, its coming "soon".

Also how dare you call xbox players greedy....we pay for our content...you guys either get it free or torrent it. :/

@TentuX - You don't need a "supreme PC" to play TF2. Of all games you really don't need a top PC to play TF2.

Also, we get stuff for free because we've had it for years like that. You get charged for it because MS can control the content like that (or "Because they can."). And I'm not even going to touch torrenting. Avoiding that fire...

TentuX:

Ah, the i have no good PC to play it argument. TF2 is not a demanding game, you can't just throw in the "not good PC" argument in every conversation, that tells us that you have absolutely no clue about what is demanding, and what is not.

"It's just that its been promised for more than 2 years that something will go on the consoles and nothing happened. I'm kinda peeved that Valve just wont straight out say that they wont support us And tell us to stick around, its coming "soon". "

RockStar promised us downloadable content last year.(source: http://pc.ign.com/articles/934/934268p1.html)
"Rockstar Games rewards loyal, paying customers and will offer incentives and downloadable content that will only be available to registered users of the game, running non-hacked copies, via Rockstar Games Social Club."

We haven't heard anything about that content. You get my point? When will they tell us that it is in the works?

"Also how dare you call xbox players greedy....we pay for our content...you guys either get it free or torrent it. :/"

Last time i checked all major DLC's cost me money.....Fallout, etc.....

Just valve is best known for it.

I believe I read an article somewhere saying that Valve WILL charge for a 360 update, but because they don't want to charge they are trying to make it as worthwhile as possible. Something involving ALL of the classes updated at once for the 360.

@Damnation02 I resent the "greedy little bastards" comment about XBox 360 owners. It it a childish accusation.

Microsoft negotiate with companies to obtain DLC exclusivity for a limited period because they are competing with Sony and want to gain an edge to make their product more desirable.

This isn't done in the interest of the XBox 360 owner however. In fact, despite owning a 360, I would personally want DLC for my favourite games to be made as widely available as possible so that this encourages interest in the product and keeps my favourite developers in business.

You may think what you want, but your fellow Xbox 360 owners made me think this way. How many times i was laughed at while playing on XBL. If you think my "greedy little bastard" sentence is childish, you should have seen what those console players threw at me while in a conversation.
You think my view is childish because i say what i experienced? Fair enough.

I didn't want to offend any right-minded Xbox users, but i'be had it with the "PC won't get DLC because it's sh!t" type of Xbot remarks. I meant those greedy bastards.

Great job valve.

Also, EVERY TF2 post leads to xbox players and pc players getting in an argument about content... sigh.

@Damnation02 I'm sorry to hear that you had a particularly negative XBL experience. However I have been online gaming since Quake, and I've found online gaming abuse to be symptomatic of idiots given the benefit of anonymity, irrespective of the format.

It's remarkable how they are willing to give this away for free. I suppose the new-comers attracted by the DLC could pay for it, but I have never seen any other mainstream game supported this much with free content - and it's not cheap content like new skins or something like that - it's new maps, new weapons, new game modes.... and it's all for free.

Well, I'm happy. But I can't help but feel that the gravy train will come to an end one day. And then it'll be another long wait for TF3.

Not entirely true. Valve has said that they're still working on the 360 DLC. It's not necessarily Microsoft's fault, this time. At this point, Valve is probably going to wait until all the class updates have been released. This, of course, means that we'll probably get stuck with a $20 DLC pack that's probably bigger than the original game itself.

I fell out of love with TF2 way back. At first, there were some real decent players working as a team (probably all familiar with the original), but new players just turned into a game of constant stalemates and clusterfudges. When I jumped back in this year, I just found the whole class update thing a bit alienating. Not that they unbalanced the game, but the random drops were just unfair. The new maps might make me change my mind and give it another go, but in all honesty, I'm done with TF2.
Wedge's Avatar - Comment posted on 08/13/2009 06:29

It's always obvious how little someone knows about the game when they complain about the "random drops".

Also if Valve ever puts out updates for the 360 version, they will probably also sell it as a standalone retail product that has all the updates in it as well. It would be sort of weird to do a massive content update for something that only exists as 1/5 games on a compilation package on the platform, and why they HAVE supported L4D on par with the PC version.

I still think "Classless" means "having no class," as in "The soldier has no class." I'm holding out for an update for one of the few remaining classes, Demoman, Soldier, or Engineer. None of them really have any class like, say, the spy does.

King of the Hill? I'm not so sure that will work in TF2, but I trust Valve, so I'm willing to give it a shot. Also, I always felt that the "class updates," threw out the balance of the game, so I'm not going to miss it that much.

True it's not all but pay DLC has an extremely high percentage of failure on the PC unless it's an expansion pack of some sort. While Valve is notorious for giving free DLC (hell if you owned the original box copy of HL1 and put it on steam you got Opposing Force & Blue Shift no charge!), we also have to remember that even the infamous EA gave tons of free DLC to the PC Battlefield series. Hell Battlefield Vietnam got a Battlefield 1943-esque DLC for free.

We PC gamers do often get free DLC but I don't want to spin it like we're the favored children. Free DLC is on PC because it's incredibly stupid to start charging a toll on an open system.

Update: from TF2 site. King of the Hill (KotH) is an intense new game mode focused around a single central capture point that must be defended for three minutes. Gameplay begins with the point initially locked—after a short time, it will open for capture by either team. Once the point is captured by a team, their team clock will start a three minute countdown. If the enemy team manages to capture the point back, their clock will start counting down while the other team’s clock freezes at the time the point was recaptured.

They need to fix some of hit box issues for some certain classes. I don't know how many times I've been face stab or had a force of nature kill me with one hit.

@TheNomadicTroll:

Face-stabs are more of a latency issue than a hit box issue, from what I've heard.

The FaN one-shotting though... It's weird. I can never kill anyone with that thing even with two-shots, and I can be directly staring at their faces.

The FaN frequently one-shots me as a regular class, and two-shots me as a heavy. Bloody annoying. And yes, facestabs are latency problems. Although I've seen someone backstab a sniper with the Razorback on before. Very strange.

Hmmm, now that I think about it, they could be misleading us into what class is next. It could be the Demoman.

King of the Hill is a defensive game mode. What does the Demoman exceed at? Defense. "Classless" update? Well, as drunk as the Demoman is, I would say he has none.

Oh Valve, you trolls you.
