So this isn't colored by the fact that I played a four-player game of New Super Mario Bros. Wii with its creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, but I'm pretty sure this game is going to be awesome

Like a lot of people, playing Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System and mastering its levels and secrets is one of my earliest gaming memories. In many ways, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a "back to basics" Mario game, one that has the feel of an old-screen side-scroller with a modern twist. The levels I've seen feel familiar, yet are completely unique in their execution.

In short -- November 15 can't come soon enough. Oh, and bring friends -- playing with three other people is way more exciting in practice than it sounds on paper... even if one of them won't be Miyamoto.

I felt something I hadn't felt since I watched video of Super Mario World on SNES before I had one. That was neat.

I'm pretty much sold.

Was Miyamoto any good at the game?

I haven't been giving this game much hype and attention like I should of..

I had the chance to play it at gamescom this year and it was awesome. I played vs. my girlfriend, a about 10 year old child and hist father. I pwned them and laughed. The Nintendo-Booth-Babe was trying to help the child but it just ran into every hole you could see. It wasn't even trying to jump!

Also: As soon as you get yoshi, you win. You can eat the other players and puke them into holes. It's win.

Seriously?! The touch... the feel... the fabric of our lives? Has destructoid sunk this low? Who green lights these ad? Are we really the target audience for cotton commercials? Seeing that makes me wanna break shit or kick babies.

It certainly helps that the video is 60fps, makes the prensentation of the game nicer, cuter..

My major complaint is the fourth character. A different colored Toad? Seriously. With the huge roster of Mario Universe characters you couldn't come up with something better for the 4th character?

Other than that, this is one game I'm looking forward to playing this with my kids.

Dear NINTENDO,

I grew up on NES, SNES, and N64. I bought the Wii twice because I believed you cared about those of us that made you what you are today. Then you SHAT on us and became the buzz of kiddie's, soccer moms, and rest homes. If I saw Reggie Fils-Aime I would punch him in the ear lobe!

SCREW YOU! You have played us core gamers as fools for the last 2 years, screw you. You have burned me and I have not forgotten. Wii = Shite Shovel-Ware Travashamockery.

I will be playing my 360 and PS3. "If" you make a new console NOT directed towards 6 year olds, moms, and grandparents; I will considering listening. But until then I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU.

There is nothing you can show me that will make me give a single crap about what you have to say. STFUAMake a new console!!!

P.S.
Mario & Link,
I'm sorry you had to get caught up in this shite storm sham known as the Wii. Maybe we can be friends again next generation, till then I'll be in Boletaria, Pandora, and Shembala meeting new and exciting friends that actually care about me and my wants and needs.

Wow. That was melodramatic. And also oddly ironic considering the direction the audience the 360 is trying to capture now.

Looking forward to the game. Good ol' platforming goodness.

You know, I didn't think it make me want it now... but you know, it totally did. I got a feeling in my cold gamer heart that I hadn't felt in 10 damn years. 4 player seems a bit much, but my buddy and I as Mario & Luigi sounds like the best thing I can think of right now. Hope my Wii still works...

The fact that Nintendo will occasionally release something I actually want to play is the only reason my Wii is still around. This is one of those games for sure.

What's there to complain about here? This one is deliberately harder than the last NSMB. It's just like the classic Mario games, but there's more. I'm not seeing the waggle. I'm not seeing the sloppy level design. But maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Also, hate doesn't make the Wii any less successful. People still buy it. Lots of people. Bitch about getting sold out all you want, that's your call. That won't stop some of us from enjoying this.

@skruloos - I'm a wounded Nintendo fan who is pissed. I'm sure this game will be fun. But I'm not buying a 3rd Wii just to play it.

@Ballbuster - I wasn't talking about this game in what I wrote. I think this game will be legit, but I've bought and sold my Wii's twice, not buying a 3rd. I wasn't trying to dissuade anyone from buying this. Just merely telling Miyamoto to get back to focusing on those that made him successful. I hope you and everyone else who buys this game enjoys it. But I will not be interested in anything Nintendo until the next console comes out.

@pedrovay2003 - Just because NATAL looks similar to Wii waggle doesn't mean it is, I have not seen any evidence that they will ignore their 'serious' gamers. Also I believe that SONY and Microsoft will do motion controls infinitely better than the Wii(random chance) waggle. Especially considering Kudo Tsunoda's jab at Nintendo from E3 this year.

If you think 360 or PS3 has anywhere near the amount of shovel wear on it, you are living with your head in the ground.

@TheJesusNinja26:

If anything Natal is going to be used for the same sort of games that you yell at Nintendo for making. Think of some of the complex moves that characters in 'serious' games make, and then figure out how to translate those to body movements when you have no buttons available. It's the reason that a lot of Wii games resort to "waggle", and the same thing will happen with Natal.

@ShawnKelfonne - I hear you for sure, and I understand the worry about that issue, and I share it. Here are my current belief on how it will work out.

1. All games will not require you to use NATAL, since not everyone is going to buy it, since it will probably be WAY overpriced.
2. The games I will work with, will be WELL DONE. Which is something I can only say a few Wii games really did using the motion control. And motion control was the PREMISE of the whole idea of the console.
3. There is no controller for NATAL, it's a very different thing all together.
4. If I'm wrong on these and NATAL is mandatory and poorly executed then I will say the exact same thing to MS.

That being said, I believe the SONY DiscoStick and NATAL will work much better than the Wii waggle.

Going back to my main complaint was with the Wii's lack of quality games, geared towards serious gamers, not kids and moms. If there were more solid games the shovel ware wouldn't bother me, but thats just not the case.

@IceMax - Because I saw some games coming for the Wii and thought, well maybe I was wrong I'll give it a go again. So I bought the Wii and some new games for it. Again, after beating RE4 and Kororinpa 2, it just collected dust. Nothing else interested me. I really tried to like the Wii and the games, but they were mostly uninteresting to me, or just plain crap.

In the end it was my fault for getting duped again. Growing up I was all about Nintendo, that is why I'm so upset with how this console has gone.

@ JesusNinja26- No, it's your fault for continuing to sell your Wii(s). There are still tons of great "core" games coming out for the thing all the time. You need to develop some patience, my friend.

Maybe you can pick one up for cheap in time to play Sin and Punishment 2, No More Heroes 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, The Crystal Bearers, RE: Darksdie Chronicles, as well as recent quality games that you probably missed out on like Little King's Story, A Boy and His Blob, and Dead Space Extraction.

Also, do you really think it's Nintendo's fault that 3rd parties are putting so much shovelware on the Wii? Other than Wii Fit, Wii Play, Wii Music, and Wii Sports, all of Nintendo's first party games on the Wii have been for their "traditional" audience, and have generally been well liked by traditional Nintendo fans.

@ Niero- Yeah, I don't "get" the New Super Mario Bros. theme music at all. It just seems so... bored. That's the exact opposite of what I expect from Mario music.

Other than that though, this game gets my seal of approval.

@Jonathan Holmes - Some of those games I've heard some good things about, as well as The CONDUIT. This Mario looks much better than the other ones on the Wii. As the 'Dude' says, "That's a bummer man, that's a bummer". Maybe I can trade some hover bacon for a Wii, because the wife was instructed to not let me buy another, no matter what form of lyrical trickery I tried to cajole her with. Maybe I can play it at a buddy's.

...god damn you Nintendo. First you make me mad and now you dangle this in front of me. That's it, I'm getting this. The music for this one might be a bit crap (from the video at least), but it looks like genuine fun on the Wii, something I haven't experienced much, other than SSBB, and a few other first party games (metroid prime trilogy, here I come). This makes me happy.

Did you watch E3? Its not going to be waggle, but its just going to be "wiggle" instead. The whole fucking thing was just one big casual fest. For god sake they were making elephant shape painting like preschoolers and that makes you think that Natal is going to be geared towards the hardcore gamer. LOL Keep dreaming!
