You've probably heard -- New Super Mario Bros. Wii is supposedly difficult.
But don't worry, since we have the Internet and access to videogame Web sites, blogs, and message boards, we're all experts. Even the game's toughest levels simply won't be a problem. We're that good, right?
But what if, for some inexplicable reason, we can't pass a level? That's where "Super Guide" comes into play -- it's New Super Mario Bros. Wii's hand-holding mode that you'll only need if you really suck at videogames. You have to die eight times for it to even be an option. Since you're totally awesome and probably won't die more than once (and only that one time because your mom was calling down to you for dinner), you might be interested in seeing what "Super Guide" looks like and how it works.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii hit shelves on November 15, and you'll have already mastered it by November 16.
so, you're going to have nsmb wii mastered in the course of a day? yeah right, i saw your playthrough of excitebike, remember? your 2d skills need practice. this game is going to make that blob game you incessantly hype look like a turd
I have made it to world 5 without a continue yet. The gameplay can be tricky, but the game really holds your hand in regards to the amount of items and lives you can find.
My girlfriend had 5 continues in world 1, if that matters to anyone planning on playing with a loved one.
I just got the game yesterday and its awesome. Super Mario bros.+Super Mario Bros. 3. The game is not hard and don't need a super guide for this wait till you finished the game a 2nd time.
Secrets Waluigi/King Koopa/Wario/ playable. How to get the secret characters is by completing the game under 4 hours without dying.
Eh... I suppose this is just another step in bringing in people who have never played video games and don't care about the challenge. At least it isn't insulting like some other solutions (the tutu in Splosion Man for example) and is completely optional.
Straight up this game looks fun! I like mario 3 and mario 2 and mario 1 and mario super mario world so there's a good chance this is the first time in years I've wanted a wii. Thanksfully I don't have one so I'll just keep playing other games instead SHIT
I don't think I have ever played or seen someone play the first stage of a Mario game like that, you know actually taking your time walking around slowly. Usually it's just hold in run button and then jump over everything and finish it in about 15 seconds.
I think the Super Guide is a really cool idea for new/casual players. Not all of us are Mario experts, guys. I mean, I don't ever plan on running into that green box. Never. Ever ;)
Can't wait! Wahoo! Here we go!
Also, Koopalings! =)
I dare a Dtoid editor to write about how this Super Guide mode is blatantly more violent than Modern Warfare 2. After all, that video demonstrates that Luigi is a merciless murderer who must extinguish the life out of everything in his path.
Really, I do think this a great idea and one that will most likely be abused. I mean it's great if you are a person who really struggles at a certain part... or someone who wants to go through the game again, but only play the levels they enjoy. It is pretty sweet.
I want to see if the Super Guide AI can die though :P
I have no beef with the Super Guide.Actually, I think it is an interesting and helpful feature.
Quite frankly, if you manage to die 8 times in a row then chances are you probably need some help. Anyway, I don't want to do what I did with Mega Man 9 and start pulling my hear out again in frustration.
I have no problems with the Super Guide, in fact I'm for it. Why shouldn't someone get to enjoy a videogame just because they don't have the same "mad skillz" as you and me? I actually think this can HELP those of us looking for more challenge from our Nintendo games. Before, to make the game appeal to the more casual audience, they had to dumb down the difficulty so more people could get through it. Maybe with the Super Guide, they can finally up the ante, while still giving casual players a way to get past it.
Personally, I got nothing against the Super Guide. We're all (for the most part) decent gamers, we'll probably never need it, thus, we'll probably never see it in action. But hey, what about all those gamers who threw their controllers at the wall because they couldn't beat a certain level? As a guy who never made it past 8-3 (so close, yet so f*cking far) in the original Mario Bros, I think it's kinda nifty that they'll help out players caught in a difficult spot. And considering it's optional, it's not even that bad if you're the kind of gamer who doesn't believe in hand-outs.
The game is clearly targeting two groups: Mario fans and also families/group players. I consider myself a Mario expert, I can fly through the classic games without any major problems. However, I do find NSMB somewhat challenging compared to previous Mario games. I also have 3 kids, 2 of which are of video game playing age, and I for one LOVE the Super Guide feature because it is very handy for people who aren't as experienced with video games, or even just the Mario games...like my 7 year old and 4 year old. Not everybody grew up playing these games like I did. My husband is 31 and can hardly beat 1-1...yet he is a champ at shooter games like Socom and Call of Duty (and I SUCK at them).
My point is that we all have our niche video game skills. Also, features such as the Super Guide are very nice for people who aren't as "leet" as you, the author of this article. There's no reason to insult those who may need it just because they haven't spent endless hours playing the Mario series like you and I have. Obviously it will come easiest to those who are already familiar with the games. The Super Guide means to me that my kids are able to play the game with more independence, confidence, and without my assistance.
Aside from all of that, I really love the multiplayer mode and have had a blast enjoying the game with my kids. I love the ice spitballs, don't like the hat flying thing so much...love that Yoshi can flutter temporarily. Wtf is up with the way the characters run??? Kind of floppy...and not as fast as in some previous Mario games. I love the small extras the developers threw in...like the turtles dancing every few seconds. We haven't beat the game yet (just got it today), but so far I am extremely pleased with it. It really is a game for everybody. It's challenging enough to keep experienced players interested, and it has features such as the Super Guide for those who are new and need help (AND THERE IS NO SHAME IN THAT!)...get a life and stop thinking you're better than anybody for having Mario Bros skillz.

it's not an ai running, it's just one of the developers imperfect (self-claimed) run through the level.

In the game, there is a "Free-for-all" mode in which you create a "playlist" of levels you want to play in any order you wish.

Asshole. . .
On a fucking Mario game?
Man, you kids crack me up.
