Looks great. Really happy to see them bring the golden leaf powerup back. Nintendo deserves a lot of credit for making a game challenging enough to keep a hardened gamer nerd like me interested while keeping it accessible enough for my 7 year old to enjoy it as well.
Am I the only one that thinks this looks awful?
It's the same Mario game as the other New Super Mario Bros game but with an emphasis on coins and the tanooki suit back in it. It looks totally dull, totally uninspired, and totally boring. Heck, I might like it if they put Wario into it, who hasn't been in a real Mario game for years, but nope. Even though there's this huge emphasis on coins and the like, he's nowhere to be seen. Instead we get Bowser and the Koopa Kids. AGAIN. The originality is baffling.
And do we really need there to be a lives system built around the coins? It feels like a Sonic game with Mario elements put into it. Only, like every other Mario game released in the past few years (disregarding SMG2) it looks ridiculously easy, AS USUAL. I mean, just take a look at the trailer. That's a ridiculous amount of coins. How is that supposed to look challenging in any way, shape, or form? If they were going to change the lives system they could have at least made it not look even easier than any other Mario game ever released.
I know it's not going to happen, but I hope with all of my heart that this bombs, so that maybe Nintendo could take a hint to STOP MAKING NEW SUPER MARIO BROS GAMES. It's cool that they're making Luigi's Mansion 2 and Paper Mario: Sticker Star, but having more NSMB games being released BEFORE those two makes me want to bang my head against a wall until I pass out so I don't have to witness this stupidity any more.

"Worth its weight in gold". Get it, friends? Since the game features gold enemies and gold coins, this headline perfectly explains the game's premise, while entertaining and delighting us, the readers. Wordplay.

Nothing terribly new, but the this trailer pumped me up a good deal more. A lot more interesting than the last trailer, for sure.

I don't think the game looks bad, depending on how much the coin objective matters it could be different enough to justify a sequel. Though it does look too easy.
But, the fact it has paid DLC has killed any and all anticipation I had for it. I really don't want to see this shit in their other games.

I'll probably enjoy it, being a side scrolling Mario game and all, but this is starting to feel copypasta to the point where every 'New' game feels identical to the last.
The only thing keeping me interested is that they're starting to give sone real fanservice to the NES titles. That was one of my favorite parts of 3D Land.

@REWQ the DLC was confirmed by Nintendo that it would not start production until the game was out. So you aren't getting less of a game that you paid for. It's going to be made based on consumer requests. It sounds quite nice actually :P

But it is still planned before launch. And even if it weren't, it still carries the same problem that all other paid DLC has, it encourages developers to put less in the main game so they could sell it later for an extra fee. No one would be able to prove if they did it or not. Skyword Sword was 50 hours long for 50$ (and it didn't do that by sailing all the time or riding a horse for a long time either). I don't think we would see another Zelda of that caliber if paid DLC became okay in Nintendo's games.

Well, since this trailer exists only as a few magnetic imprints on a YouTube server somewhere, and that doesn't weigh very much, that means it's worthless, right?
Gotta say, e3 trailer came around, i wasnt even excited for it, but slowly im starting to come around even more. The levels displayed in the trailer look alot more balanced and well designed thant the e3 trailer where it was just regular levels with just coins thrown in there.

Even if it's not the best Mario game, it's still a Mario game and I'm buying it. Still, I find the NSMB art and graphics to be pretty hideous in every game. I want sprites or something.

The level editor comment is 'golden'. Glad to hear some of guys can get really excited for this, but to me, this seems even more blatantly rehashed than Pokemon games. After Rayman Origins, I wouldn't even think about paying for another Mario game.
It looks like the other Mario game. The other Mario games don't suck. I'm excited for this Mario game. Pokemon, Call of Duty, God of War, Tales of, Tony Hawk, Street Fighter, Tekken, etc. all recycle a working formula and still manage to be good/popular games. Game looks good. Gonna get it. Would prefer innovation, but this isn't bad, at all. The end.

I'll give it to Nintendo, at least they know how to stay close to their 2D roots with the same game play mechanics. Sega had to be begged to fix their damn Sonic games.

Does this game once again have a button that lets people have the AI play the game for them? If so, then *sigh*.
Are we back in 2006? even in 06 this game was very very primitive, but it was fun anyway. But now, 6 years later (correct me if i am wrong whit the dates) this game sucks already
Loving Rayman Origins means that you just like new graphic styles over actual gameplay, because Rayman offered NOTHING different gameplay-wise, and actually felt a little sloppy and loose.
That doesn't mean i didn't like the game, but for those of you that throw love at Rayman but now decide to aim all your hate of life into Super Mario or Nintendo in general are simply misguided and kind of dumb.

Evidently Rayman didn't have 2D shooter sections, fast paced sliding sections, dynamic worlds that did more than shift back and forth on rails, and have a greater focus on combat and iterative upgrades. Me noticing that, as well as their absence in Mario sure does make me simply misguided and kind of dumb, alright.
But yeah, it did have a charming art style, and that's another thing Mario is lacking in his two latest rehashes.

you know what nintendo is saying with this game?
they are showing that they know you will spend money on this game no matter what and they will rake in the coins because you fans will buy anything simply because its mario. how long before they release a gold 3dsXL? knowing full well you have 1 or 2 of them already, yet will still go out and buy the gold one just because.

they shouldve called this "Mario Jackpot" & he goes to a Casino/Golden Saucer type planet. but now I permanently hate the Coin sound now...
