Or do they think the prospect of DLC just gets us all wet? "ERMAGERD DLCEEEEE!!!"
The sad thing is, there are fans who have been asking Nintendo to jump on the DLC bandwagon. And I really have to wonder why, do they feel Nintendo games are not like the big boy games on the 360 or PS3 without paid DLC? Skyward Sword will be the last Zelda Nintendo will release complete at launch I'm afraid.
Let's judge Nintendo on the DLC WHEN the DLC happens. Just because some publishers handle DLC poorly does not mean all publishers do.
Capcom, EA and THQ have earned a bad rep, but let's not project thier failures on other publishers and developers.
Fun Fact: Fire Emblems first DLC was free for six weeks and none of the DLC pertains to the primary campaigns of that game. It's all frilly, non-canon fanservice scenarios with past FE characters.
Judge the content by the content, not the failure of other studios.
Nintendo has a pretty strong history of games with
And the DLC for Fire Emblem was developed before launch, and could have been included in the game easily. But they didn't.
I'm not saying I like it, but I have yet to see any solid evidence that FE is incomplete without it. FE games tend to consume laundress of hours.
Once you start moving up that high, I stop questioning how "complete " your game is. We're FE a 20 hour RPG THEN it would raise some red flags.
Personally, I don't buy much in the way of DLC, but I'm not going to object to the model, so long as I'm still getting a good, complete game for my retail dollars (and more of what's in the game coming out as DLC does not make the game 'incomplete', no matter how you want to spin it).
What I would like some DLC for though is Mario Kart. Some new tracks would get me to start playing the game again, and I would really like some new characters like Dry Bones, Professor E Gadd, or Fawful.
DLC for Fire Emblem was developed after launch of the game and after taking feedback from japanese players and it was offered for very cheap with lots of content per DLC.
DLC actually fits perfectly into this type of Mario game - give us new levels with set of additional challenges in each DLC and it will be fine.
Fucking pathetic.
I can't speak for everyone of course, but I personally have never been against DLC in theory, just the irresponsible and greedy execution of it. Useless microtransactions, selling portions of the game that should be included from day one (see Capcom), and just plain old overpriced content (see Activision). So far, I see nothing wrong with what Nintendo is doing.
