"i dont see an issue, where I come from 7-10 is good"
But it's NOT an exact match for every other review in the world. It needs to both be an 8/10 and a 9/10 at the exact same time in order for it to not be a conspiracy.
In this case I am on your side. Maybe your witty sexiness should be used on someone who disagrees with you?
@ctg867
With respect, you may be a little insane ifyou think Jim has a campaign against Nintendo or the beloved Mario franchise. At best this was going to be "more of the same with minor twists/improvements." Not all Ninty games are masterpieces.
Of course the Lite didn't have the stigma of the 3D output gimping the rest of the handheld's features and the fact that they clearly rushed this out shows.
The bottom line is that Nintendo fucked up badly with the 3DS and NSMB 2 is an attempt to salvage the system. But the stigma of the system is such though that it likely isn't going to work.
He said that it was below expectations while pointing out it was outpacing the ds in every region, so Id take that with a grain of salt.
Everything else is your opinion so I cant be angry.
No he didn't, just a few weeks ago he said that the 3DS still wasn't meeting expectations in the US and Europe and was only doing alright in Japan. "Outpacing" means nothing when your handheld is still bleeding you red ink. And it still is, despite what all the bullshit going around says to the contrary.
NSMB 2 got announced at a ***BUSINESS MEETING***. The board of directors was like "Shit the 3DS is hurting us we need to put a killer on this thing ASAP." 3D Land, OoT 3D, and MK7 were all supposed to sell 3DS hardware but all failed. And we're talking like the same numbers that their console and DS brethren did. And they haven't. So NSMB 2 gets made cuz they know that sells hardware.
It isn't opinion, it's a conclusion based upon and supported by business analysis and sales data, and also upon what various entities at Nintendo have said this year so far.
NSMB 2 is getting an underwhelming response because it was rushed out the door to save the 3DS' ass. Just like NSMB Wii U is getting rushed out to sell the Wii U because Nintendo can't afford to have a 3DS performance out of the gate and risk losing even more money. Pikmin sure as hell isn't going move consoles, or I should say, isn't going to sell to the Wii and DS audience. It'll sell to fans of the N64 and GC, which mainstream gamers are not fans of. But Nintendo can't afford to take growth for granted any longer. They either expand gaming or they get marginalized and eventually die off.
There's a serious cancer that is eating up all of gaming, and the 3DS is just one manifestation of how this cancer can damage and destroy gaming businesses.
He said that, and then he mentioned how the 3ds had doubled up ds sales in both regions. He was being modest.
The 3ds is profitable right now fyi.
NSMB is getting an underwhelming response? All I see are 7's,8's,9s, and 10s
But whatever floats your boat.
I also think you need a deep breath
That said...I have a feeling if they folded some of the few new concepts and features from this into NSMB U, it'd have been better off. Both games have their own batches of "new" stuff, but it seems to have been stretched thin between having two different games.
the funny thing is I have a destination wedding(not mine) the day before, So I need to haul ass the next day to get the xl and this game.
If not maybe he didnt get to a point where coins were needed?
Eevrything else is just speculation about motive, which I am in no position to answer
Sure, this "new" entry is going to be more of the same... That is, more Mario platforming excellence. So, with that, count me in!
Thank you, Nintendo.
3rd party games are greatly over shadowing them and the reason to own a 3ds isnt for ninteno games. At least not yet, i am really excited though for the games coming out later this year.
On a personal level Ive been quite satisfied with kid icarus mario land 3ds, and FE awakening (I imported)
-It's a sequel and it's STILL called "New". What's so new? Oh yeah:
-It features Mario greedily collecting gold completely unironically instead of using Wario
-It's the first Nintendo game to have paid DLC
-Nintendo charges full price for it, just to see people rip it off the shelves because it says Mario on the cover.
It's brilliant! Nintendo is such a driving force in boldly creating this meta art piece.
I may wait on this one, and start looking forward towards New Super Mario Bros. U (at the very least to see a potential new RunawayGuys Let's Play project).
It's weird how much hatred is tossed at Nintendo on a daily basis by the kiddies here. Nothing more hilarious than children that think they are cool or hip because they prefer their military/alien shooters over the whimsical gameplay fun of Nintendo, yet in real life they wouldn't dare handle a REAL gun because they're so fucking afraid of them.
Hahahhaaha, what a laugh. What a bunch of pussies.
Guess I'll wait for the next Galaxy, or whatever the hell Nintendo does for the next 3D Mario game.
Good review Jim, well-written as always.
It hurts when Japan gets animal crossing to play after they're done with their mediocre Mario. America just gets the mediocre Mario......
There seems to be a certain double standard.
I love Mario something fierce, but I probably won't be getting this one for awhile, especially considering the Wii U one will probably come out before year's end.
I'm a longtime Mario fan, and I never want to admit a Mario game is bad. But, I have to agree with Jim. This fucking shit is aggravating. I want something actually NEW AND FRESJ. GET RID OF THE FUCKING FALSE "NEW" MONIKER AND GIVE US SOMETHING GOOD AND INNOVATIVE, NINTENDO.
