When I think back on fond NES memories, I often recall countless battles played out on in the 8-bit sand of Technos' Super Dodge Ball. This was one of those rare games that had universal appeal and almost infinite replayability. Remember how cheap Team Russia was? I was extremely pleased to hear that lethal ball beaming is making its way back to us in Super Dodgeball Brawlers for the Nintendo DS, and these new gameplay videos make me so happy that I could *BARF*.
Although it's great to see how Arc System Works remained true to the original formula, I was worried at first when watching these videos. As much as the classic game is loved, I think the real draw here is the ability to fight sans dodge ball. No worries, though. The beach video (above) eventually does drop a soda machine into the mix. Now that's what I'm talking about. The indoor casino-ish video (after the jump) makes no apologies, and in it you get to see a literal bomb drop on the opposing team. I can't wait to do that!
With the classic gameplay mode and the new wireless eight-player mulitplayer "brawl" mode, I can't see anyone passing up this $29.99 spring release. Do you have the balls for this?
This just makes me want to play dodgeball in real life. Sure, I won't be able to throw a soda machine at somebody, but it's much more satisfying than virtual dodgeball.
Super Dodgeball without the massively slow framerate and occasional flickering!!
My only gripe is that the gameplay looks a little slow... Or maybe that's because no one did any dash attacks in that demo.
I thought that too, but clearly no one playing in the vids knows how to dash run, jump, wait until your at the highest point and unleash volleyball hell. Muwahaha!
"Damn, what's up with the music? Sounds gay all around."
Yes Mustin, I'm sure homosexuals everywhere are listening to that very song as we speak. Try expanding your lexicon to things that we might not hear in a junior high locker room.
On a more positive note:
If you can dodge a soda machine, you can dodge a ball.
@MechaMonkey: Enough with your evasions on the issue of music! Is it, or is it not, fabulous?
For some reason, that made me feel a little like Bill O'Reilly.
What the hell? Why is it so fucking slow? Super Dodgeball was a nice upgrade to the old game, though it got fairly predictable eventually.
This... this just looks horrible and a step backwards in every facet. Like they just put marginally better graphics over the original and made shit fall down from the sky randomly. The screenshots in the original made the game look much faster paced.
I can only hope they're demoing this with retards on some super easy mode or something.
i had a dream the other night involving a 2D projected/projection of a super dodgeball game you could play/interact live with(using sensors in the room). so you were your self in a room playing dodgeball against video imposed technos characters. i loved it.
