Seriously? This seems daft so close to the WiiU release.
Considering the people who mostly use the Wii, this could lead to massive confusion. "Mummy can we haz nu wii pleeze!?" "Sure, here you go" - "mummy the games are just the same?!?"
It's not as if the Wii isn't small enough already either! The Eggsbawks and the Triple both NEEDED slim versions, because they were the size of a small car each.

I need more photos for my brain to process. No cube support isn't a big deal, the gamecube is 10 years old now. I just started playin Skies of Arcadia on my wii, love that game!

I really don't see the big deal about this. I mean if you already own a Wii, than this doesn't effect your current system in any way and if you want one that does play GC games. You can still go buy one right now, so what's the big deal here? Its a value family pack, so obviously its aimed at the casuals, but if you want a regular Wii, than just go buy the $150 Mario Kart Wii bundle instead!

I honestly like the idea of Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo making slimmer, less-powerful consoles for less $$$, that is if the WiiSlim is less $$$.
I know this isn't for us hardcore gamers, but who IS this targeted to? This thing has to be dirt cheap. There's just no reason for this to exist otherwise.
So this is their answer to the ps3 price drops. now Nintendo can lower their price and make the same amount.

I can see the point of the new PSP model and this new Wii model. Yet I still can't figure out why they're doing it.
It says right in the box: "Wii Family Edition". My mom doesn't have the need to play SSB:Meelee or Wind Waker, in that way it makes sense for this to exist, but it better be cheap or it will be pointless.

Nintendo has said that there will be more bundles and versions this fall but this is the first one shown. (At least that's what Nintendo of Sweden said in their announcement) It's the "Family Edition" hence why it focuses on the "Casual" games, so no GC stuff required. Let's wait and see what the other versions are as well before we hate, okay?

Well, it might seem to us like a stupis move from Nintendo, but this change won't make a difference for the casual audience that just want to play Wii Sports or Just Dance, they'll probably never used their gamecube support/controller ports, heck, they might even not know what the hell is a Gamecube.

The Mario Kart Wii bundle has been out since May, but we can still walk into any store and buy the old Wii Sports/Wii Sports Resort bundles right now. So we're talking well into 2012 before Nintendo will run out of all of those old bundles.

Losing the stand isn't bad. Those things were pretty worthless.

Well any gamer who still remembers what the Gamecube was, already has their Wii or is going to keep their GC, so no casualties here.

What really gets me is this is the Wii Family edition.... but it only seems from what I have been able to gather, to come with a single wii-mote and chuck... not even sure if that Wii-mote is motion+

Can't say I'm surprised, although I think the timing is pretty bad. It really should have happened earlier. There's already enough confusion from non-gamers about the Wii-U. I had an argument with someone the other day that insisted it was just a new peripheral for the Wii *facepalm*.
Taking the Gamecube functionality out for a budget console certainly makes sense, though. It was only yesterday that I had to tell someone that the Wii could play Gamecube games - and they thought I was taking the piss.

There's just no incentive to buy this and the lack of support for GameCube controllers is the biggest downer as I prefer them over the Classic pads. I always use a Wavebird for playing Smash Bros Brawl.
I can carry the Wii around in a small bag... Why the flipping hell do I want a smaller one that removes functionality? Terrible timing too, because I think my Wii's broken.

It may not be necessary but it's just another option people. Some of you overreact about ever little fucking thing.
If this has no Gamecube controllers, then it's total garbage, not because of the lost GC compatibility, but because a lot of Wii games support them and some are just downright terribly controlled with the Wii remote.
