Considering the people who mostly use the Wii, this could lead to massive confusion. "Mummy can we haz nu wii pleeze!?" "Sure, here you go" - "mummy the games are just the same?!?"
It's not as if the Wii isn't small enough already either! The Eggsbawks and the Triple both NEEDED slim versions, because they were the size of a small car each.
But the tiny little Wii?!? Whatever floats your boat ninty, whatever floats your boat.
I really don't see the big deal about this. I mean if you already own a Wii, than this doesn't effect your current system in any way and if you want one that does play GC games. You can still go buy one right now, so what's the big deal here? Its a value family pack, so obviously its aimed at the casuals, but if you want a regular Wii, than just go buy the $150 Mario Kart Wii bundle instead!
It won't play physical GameCube media, and Nintendo won't confirm GameCube title downloads of any form... although it's not out of the question.

@PEICanada7:
This bundle/system will be replacing the current model. So once those $150 Mario Kart bundles are off shelves and sold, you won't be able to purchase them new any longer. But with millions of Wiis sold, I can't imagine finding a used Wii would be an issue.
Nintendo has said that there will be more bundles and versions this fall but this is the first one shown. (At least that's what Nintendo of Sweden said in their announcement) It's the "Family Edition" hence why it focuses on the "Casual" games, so no GC stuff required. Let's wait and see what the other versions are as well before we hate, okay?
Plus, it will probably be cheaper to manufacture,
so Nintendo gets a bit more profit.
The Mario Kart Wii bundle has been out since May, but we can still walk into any store and buy the old Wii Sports/Wii Sports Resort bundles right now. So we're talking well into 2012 before Nintendo will run out of all of those old bundles.
By that time, the Wii U will be coming out soon, so what hardcore gamer is going to care about this by then? I still don't see the big deal. People complain about how they don't care about their dusty Wii's right now, so are you really going to care about this new Wii 6 to 9 months from now? Probably not!
Ditching the Gamecube controller ports and memory card slots in order to make it smaller and a bit cheaper... Well, that's the kind of move that Sony would do. Nintendo at least generally waits until the next generation to ditch compatibility features.
Where were you during the PSP announcement? I don't see you calling that a "daft" move. Fanboys these days.
cause i sure as hell still dont want one.
It would almost make sense if it came with I dunno 2-4 Wii-Mote+
Between the new PSP and the new Wii bundle ..... and the PSPGo .... I really don't know what hardware manufacturers are thinking but If you could autotune "Derp" over and over to Nyan cat ....
Besides if it's smaller it must be cheaper.
Taking the Gamecube functionality out for a budget console certainly makes sense, though. It was only yesterday that I had to tell someone that the Wii could play Gamecube games - and they thought I was taking the piss.
I don't get all the hate really. The only thing stupid is that this budget version wasn't released sooner. Taking out Gamecube compatibility for a 'casual' version of the console just makes sense. There's no reason for we average gamers to get shitty about it - it's not aimed at us. It's aimed at the type of people who likely never even realised the Wii could play Gamecube games.
As for no GC compatibility, not the biggest deal ever, but I know a LOT of people who still use GC controllers for Smash Bros Brawl, because honestly that game sucks with the Wiimote.
That picture doesnt even make it look smaller...
WE TOOK A WII AND PUT THAT MOTHAFUCKA DOWN ON IT'S SIDE AND IT DON'T PLAY GAMECUBE GAMES NO MORE.
Money please!
This just looks like utter trash.
