New SimCity Creator screenshots photo

Today, EA tossed us some pretty hip screenshots for the upcoming Wii title, SimCity Creator.  This latest incarnation of the SimCity franchise will seem very familiar to those who have been enjoying the games over the years. The idea of the game is to build, manage, and maintain a city. The big twist is that the locales and buildings are somewhat customizable this time around. Players will be able to choose different themes around which to build their cities. The list of themes includes archaic cultures like the Roman and Egyptian all the way to modern stuff like Las Vegas.

The screenshots below can give you a pretty good indication as to what EA is planning to bring to the table visually. If you notice, there are also quite a few pictures of the varying disasters that can be wrought upon your imaginary culture. Personally, I’m very familiar with disaster in SimCity games. Apparently, I’m just a terrible player. Perhaps I will get another shot at becoming the ultimate micromanager this September 22 when SimCity Creator hits store shelves.

Hopefully this is rather decent. My laptop shits its pants with SimCity 4, which for all intents and purposes is an OUTSTANDING title. I'm not sure if I like the polygonal buildings though compared to the more detailed yet less-flexible sprites in the past...if there's no issue with a fully functional and rotational camera angle in the Wii version, and the buildings don't look like complete ass up close, then that might just be good enough.

ok, see how the lots next to roads don't have anything like curbs or driveways, or anything that leads up to road? Or notice how none of the lots have parking lots or little tiny people next to them?

Its like they reskinned SimCity 3000.

I want to like this, but it looks like crap to me, compared to SimCity 4.

I REALLY do want to like this though :(

Ooooh man.... That's just awfully ugly. Is my Wii THAT graphically screwed? The worst part is that the idea seems nice. Sim City Societies wasn't that crappy with the expansion. It seems they're aiming for a middle ground beetween the old school series and that "almosty" spin-off in this one. The idea was great, but poorly implemented, giving a huge variety of buildings and somehow making you feel like NOT building shit. Specially because the only way to make a city go wrong is summoning 15 disasters one after another.

Although it's always moronically fun to see a Sim really happy while his town is being Godzilla-raped.

I hope they polish it up a bit more.

@Springsteen

See that's the thing: A Wii's just GOT to be able to just run SimCity 4, right? That game's like 5 years old, yeah? What kind of pisses me off is that the franchise peaked out at 4, and there hasn't just been a re-release for consoles of that really fairly brilliant game.

Has anyone seen video of this running? The graphics may be shit, but it is pumping out a full blown city (look at some of the screens), and the video footage that I've seen runs at a smooth 60fps. The copy on my PC, which (though a laptop) was pretty high end after Simcity 4 came out and I've had some RAM upgrades since, still has problems with framerate when the city gets large.

It's beautiful, it's coherent, it's got NON-ORTHOGONAL ROADS DAMNIT FINALLY, it's probably got a decent gameplay...

and it's only for Wii.

Excuse me for a moment, I need to slap EA.

Hmmm, looks almost comparable to Sim City 64

This really looks terrible. I can't imagine trying to play sim city on a tv screen using gaming console controls ( even though the wii controllers may be the best suited of the consoles for this game, it would still drive me crazy) ... this game needs a mouse and high resolution.

What the hell, couldn't you create you own buildings in SC2000 or 3000 too?

I love Sim City but the buildings seem to repeat way more often than I remember in Sim City 4.....

I played SimCity on the SNES to death. I always though it a bit pointless that once you'd built the city, there' was nothing else to do except destroy it.

I would love to see some Civilization-style win-conditions though.

It looks good though, and I'm sure it will create a whole new generation of building-gamers :)
