Some new information has surfaced on the Western-developed Silent Hill: Homecoming. Chief among them for me is the grim confirmation that Pyramid Head is indeed being recycled and crammed in to this new installment, something I was trying to pretend wasn't real. As if that wasn't lame enough, the fact that he's the musclebound skirt-wearing version as seen in the Silent Hill movie, and not the creepy smock-adorned version from Silent Hill 2, suggests even more to me that this game will be a cheap disappointment crammed full of homages to the film more than anything else.
Pyramid Head, the nurses, the look of the Otherworld -- all of it has been lifted directly from the movie, which is rather pitiful and creatively lazy in my opinion. I'll stop bashing it before I sound like a Fallout fan or something, but I'll just say that this is not a game I am excited for, and to say that about a Silent Hill game is something that saddens me greatly.
Still, check out the new shots over at ActionTrip, and also be aware that Konami has pushed the release date back to November. Maybe they found something else from previous SH installments to recycle and shoehorn in at the last minute. It has been confirmed that a PC version is in the works as well.
Also, f*ck the developers of this game for making me feel like a whiny Diablo fanboy complaining about new games. If you'll excuse me, I'm off to make a melodramatic online petition to continue my Silent Hill bitching in peace.

We all know Silent Hill has been going steadily downhill since part 2. 4 had its moments, but there is only so many times a western audience can play the same stages over and over again, surely?
And did you really think the movie was that bad? I thought it was at least on par with most of the other shitty horror films released in the past 30 years. It had the game's atmosphere down pat in some parts...
But yeah, rehashing bad guys from previous games is always a bad sign.
The first three quarters of the Silent Hill film were pretty decent, but that's no excuse for the developers to copy it shamelessly. I want to play a new Silent Hill, not a pathetic rip-off of a slightly above average videogame movie.
Pyramid head in a skirt... maybe they'll add a new feature where he rips the skin off of... nevermind.
Trying to reinterpret source material so as not to alienate newcomers just ends up alienating everyone.
Also, if you really want to think about it, the Silent Hill movie was a ripoff of Silent Hill 1 & 2, from the story to the characters, even though the protagonist was different. So then Silent Hill: Homecoming is a rip-off of a rip-off? Just lovely!
Well when it is proven to be a pathetic rip-off of an above average video game movie then you can start your ranting. However unless I am mistaken you do not have a review copy of the game, so sit back, relax and stop sensationalizing :D
This is incrediby lame. Expected, but lame.
Seriously, unless the game has the masculine theme of the second why bother with Pyramid Head? Can't they come up with something even worse/better than him?
Silent Hill in eastern hands was made by artists and programmers. Not the best gameplay mechanics, but heavily story driven, with complicated characters and beautiful visual metaphors.
Silent Hill in western hands is dumbed down, recycled trash. $20 says that this game has "aren't we so clever" satire of the War on Terror, and that this dude's demons are he was forced to shoot some kids. And the 'good' ending will have him walking off into the desert holding some middle eastern kid's hand.
So far, it looks like every choice made has been the lowest-common-denominator, painfully obvious, student project choice. There's no maturity to it any more.
Pyramid Head doesn't even BELONG in this damn game. He's clearly symbolic of James' sexual frustration in SH2. Are western developers really too fucking stupid to understand metaphor? What about subtlety, ffs?
Such a damn shame.
I can't believe the nosedive this series has taken.
I actually liked the movie and particularly loved the look of shock I received from the girl I was dating at the time as she watched with me near the end... when the barb wire... went places... muwahaha! Had nothing to do with the game as far as I knew but hot damn that made for a fucking hardcore ending.
However, good movie fun does not translate to good game fun.
I hope nobody buys this thing (wishful thinking) and the talentless hacks have to get jobs pushing burgers round or something befitting them.
As if we didn't all know this was going to happen the moment it was announced who was to develop it. Did anyone really start out with that much hope for the new Silent Hill?
I liked the movie, I got what I expected out of it... but seriously... wtf. Konami needs to step in.
i dont remember the the paint lifting in Origins. Pretty sure they just used the mirrors to go between worlds.
@Timmeh
yeah im just sayin with all the other stuff theyre ripping from the previous games ill be pissed if they decide to leave out the bleeding walls. Playing the last bit of Silent Hill 3 was for me, some of the best creepy disturbing gaming ever.
It was the first time you go through the window I believe. You only saw it once.
Even worse though was the energy drinks. Um, I've had lots of energy drinks and they don't SLOW ME TO 10% SPEED.
I think it's just laziness on their part, especially since it uses the movie version. I doubt the Collective actually knows all that stuff I just said, though. If they think that this is actually fanservice, then they don't know Silent Hill fans. I'm still hoping the game will somehow be good anyways, but it's doubtful.
Maybe it'll hurt less.
:(
but no, oh no. the world can't turn if not the general consumer to blast it fo sake of blasting it. You have barely seen the game, you have barely seen the entirety of the game. so don't judge a game till you play it.
... jackasses
that sucks, but at least it frees up my schedule a bit
