New screenshots of Daedelic's Whispering World look surprisingly good photo
It's been quite some time since I've ventured into PC gaming territory, but adventure games of the fantasy variety have a way of tugging at my heartstrings. Throw in a jester on an epic journey to discover the meaning of life, as Daedelic Entertainment has done, and I'm pretty much sold -- on the idea, at least.

As far as the story goes, The Whispering World is looking to remind us that adventure gaming is still alive and well on the PC. We are in charge of Sadwick, and his wormy companion Spot, who find themselves awakened by a mysterious form who has bigger plans than watching us sleep our lives away, lazily. Traveling through hand-painted backgrounds of beauty, the game promises to take us "through a modern fairy tale with lovingly crafted characters in the style of classic animated films that bring the story to life."

The point-and-click adventure first showed up on our radar back in April, when an early trailer of the game showed up on YouTube, narrated in German. Daedelic sent us some new screenshots, and I must say, they are eye pleasing. You might want to keep a lookout for this one, come the last quarter of 2008.

Catch the press release, after the jump.

Press Release: February 19, 2008

The Whispered World: First Screenshots and Details Revealed

Hamburg/Germany: February 19, 2008. The first screenshots from Daedalic
Entertainment’s upcoming adventure game The Whispered World reveal the
game’s amazing world. The pictures grant a first glimpse of locations
and characters from the fantasy point & click game, set for release in
the 4th quarter of 2008.

Protagonist Sadwick is a young clown, travelling a fairy tale world with
his family’s circus. But he is in no laughing mood and on a
disappointing search for meaning in his life. One night, a mysterious
form speaks to him in a dream and sends him on perilous journey. Many
challenges await Sadwick, for the world he knows so well is doomed...

In the vein of classic adventure games, gamers direct Sadwick and his
constant companion, a little worm named Spot, through the gorgeous
backdrops of the game world. Hand-painted backgrounds filled with
animated details and lovingly crafted characters in the style of classic
animated films bring the story to life. The Whispered World meshes
fairy-tale elements with melancholic undertones to create an epic
fantasy story.

The adventure game from Daedalic Entertainment will be released in the
4th quarter of 2008 for Windows-PC.

Certainly looks visually delicious, my curiosity is suitably piqued. The main screenshot reminds me of the Moomins a bit as well.

Dr. Seuss has now entered the gaming world. Jack Thompson will not blame video games for bastardizing Dr. Seuss for the kiddies.

(I am well aware this is not Dr. Seuss.)

That last screenshot looks SOOOOOO Monkey Island.

I hope this game is funny, not another fucking drama tale. I miss funny point and click adventures.

That looks epicly beautiful. Adventures games are about the only PC games I can get into--keep us posted on this one so that I remember to buy it.
