In 2002, Tecmo released Rygar: The Legendary Adventure. The re-telling of their 8-bit classic was indeed Legendary, an excellent game that many overlooked at the time. Well, now it's coming to the Wii as Rygar: The Battle of Argus

Tecmo are officially saying it's "not the same Rygar," trying to make us feel better about a port of a six-year-old game. What's going to be fresh? New enemies, techniques and -- of course -- waggle. Additionally, the new "Gladiator Mode" will focus on the game's new "swinging movement of the Wii Remote."

So. There you have it. I have a copy of the PlayStation 2 game sitting on my shelf, and I have to admit, I haven't played it in awhile. Regardless of how much I liked the original, I'm not sure how tempted I am to slap down the $39.99 when The Battle of Argus comes out this December.

Regardless of how much you liked the original, I think everyone can agree they'd rather see a brand new title rather than a port. Anyone looking forward to picking this one up?

I had forgotten they were re-releasing this shit.

I still can't quite believe it.

I missed it the first time, despite having read good reviews for it, so I might give it a go this time around.
Would I pick it up if I had the PS2 original though? Probably not. Not really digging on bro' Rygar.

I loved the hell out of this game, but it's gotten so little praise because people compare it to GoW. Actually surprised by this port, but will play the hell out of it when it comes down the line.

There do seem to be some extra environmental effects...

I mean this port has been in development for so long you would hope something has been added.

I'll check it out since it would probably easier than finding a PS2 version now that most retailers here are basicly clearing stock of ps2 games and just replace it with the same ubicrap shovelware petz games that are on the wii shelf...

Rygar for the PS2 was AWESOME, Rygar with waggle, I don't know nor do I understand why he looks like a reject from an 80's metal band, his old look was fine.

I'll rent it at least.

I really wish that these game companies would figure out that releasing a game on the Wii does not require implementing a waggle in the game.

I owned the original but only played a few hours of it before I got bored and sold it to EB Games (forgive me, I didn't respect the industry as much that many years ago). That fact still doesn't make me wanna pay that much for an old ass port, though.

I never played the PS2 version so I may pick it up some rainy day.

I've kinda wanted to play this for a while. I'd be a lot more excited if they would just break down and use the old subtitle, because it was way the hell more awesome.

"Rygar: Muscle Impact". I remember the director saying he wanted to name it that because he wanted to give the impression that playing the game would build your muscles like the hero's. Which is awesome.

Never played this, but it got amazing reviews, so I may have to check this one out.

I shall let a quote from a wise, intelligent man who adorns the moniker of Sadat X answer for me:

"Fuck dat."

I'm in the UK, so we'd have to pound out £40. That's almost $80. For a six year old port.

Hell fuckin no?
