New screens surface for Ace Attorney spin-off, Perfect Prosecutor photo

I chatted you up about the upcoming Ace Attorney universe spin-off Perfect Prosecutor (Gyakuten Kenji vs Gyakuten Saiban) earlier this month, and for those of you foaming at the mouth for more crime-solving, these new screens courtesy of Jeux-France ought to whet your appetite.

While no information about a US release has come to light, I have more news to make you envy the Japanese -- Capcom has announced that the previous volumes of the Ace Attorney series will see a reduction in price, falling to 2100 Yen each (roughly $20 US.) There's no telling if something like this price cut will make it to the US, although hardcore fans would likely buy it one way or the other (but our pocketbooks would surely appreciate the sentiment.)

The Jeux-France article also clarifies that the object of Perfect Prosecutor is to incarcerate Benjamin Hunter, an name you'll easily remember if you're a hardcore fan of the series in both its English and Japanese incarnations (hint hint.) Surely it will be worth many a fan's mad glee to be able to learn more about some of these characters that weren't fully fleshed out before. Announce a US release date, Capcom!

[Thanks Justin]

Haha, I was like "What? Benjamin Hunter? Who the hell is that" and was really ashamed because I love Phoenix Wright.

It turns out Benjamin Hunter is Edgeworth's name in the French version of PW, so don't feel bad if you didn't easily remember it - the name doesn't exist in the American games.

Oh god I want this so hard. By making this more like an adventure game, I think Capcom has a helluva spin off on their hands!

Does "I chatted you up" mean the same thing in the US as it does in the UK?

Victim was killed by a crowbar to the head, and is now in the garbage bag.

I just beat the game.

I've played through every Gyakuten game so I'm kind of fanboying out about this one. I like how they add new stuff to each game, but a complete overhaul of the current system is...I dunno. I like adventure games though, perhaps this will be the prototype for a new investigation mechanic for GS5? Kinda like the 5th case in the DS version of the game.

I didn't think there was a future for Gyakuten Saiban after the events of Apollo Justice. :[

@Aerox

If benjamin hunter is french edgeworth/mitsurugi...then why is the goal to incarcerate him? o_o;

The incarceration part must be a mistranslation, but Benjamin Hunter is definitely his name in French.

This will be interesting. After playing all of the Ace Attorney games, you'll have to think in a different direction.

I assume this is a new DS game and not a port of a GBA game right?

I played the first Phoenix Wright game but haven't started the others yet, but I'm hoping they kick up the action in this one compared to what I've played so far. Story is nice, but a bit of adventure is even nicer to go along with a good story.

If benjamin hunter is french edgeworth/mitsurugi...then why is the goal to incarcerate him?

Kind of wondering that myself... But, I haven't played the other game with Edgeworth in it...

Keep us posted on details about this one, Colette. For that matter, when's the next Apollo Justice game coming out in the US?

I love it. Edgeworth has always been on of my favorite characters in the Ace Attorney series. I'm so glad we haven't seen the last of him.

A court case with him vs. Phoenix Wright as the opponent would be full of epic win

@Scary Womanizing Pig Mask , that scene demands Ace Ventura references (ideally made by someone else ant totally lost on Edgeworth)

I have thought for a long while, especially since Edgeworth turns into such a sympathetic antagonist toward the end of the first game, that they could make a sequel that fucktions essentially the same as Ace Attourney, just with the objective of a guilty verdict. I think the main argument against that was that it would be difficult to explain how multiple cases would have the same defence attorney (as presumably they would want to establish a rivalry or something with the character) Maybe they will just have a different opponent for each case.

I like that they actually made it a "spin-off" rather than dress the existing games differently, though it remains to be seen how profound the changes are, it may be that it's the same as investigating the old games but with a third-person veiwpoint.

Mind, if the worst-case scenario is more of the same, I still can't wait.
