New screens pop up for Wizardry: The Wedge of Life for DS photo

Some of you may recall back when I did my review of The Dark Spire, a little dungeon crawler for the DS that dealt out dungeon crawling and punishingly hard difficulty in equal doses. Of course, some of the inspiration for this game (and for more dungeon crawlers than I can count) was Sir Tech's original Apple II game Wizardry. There's a new title in the series coming for the Nintendo DS, and Famitsu recently published new screens for it (which you can check out here).

The new game will allow up to six characters in your party, which you can meet along the way or create yourself if you are so inclined. The dungeon map will be viewed on the top screen, while the bottom will be manipulated using the stylus (for traps and such). The game is due out in Japan this November, with no US publisher announced as of just yet. I'd love to get my hands on a modern take of Wizardry. I wonder if the difficulty will be as tough as I remember, or will the developers adjust it for modern audiences?

That lower right hand one is pretty much what you see. That is what you see in battle. outside of battle you see the walls and floor of the dungeon you are walking through. Much like what you see behind the enemies in that shot. At least, that is if it is like the past Wizardry Titles.

The Wedge of Life? So, this is a game about playing Trivial Pursuit?

I'm more excited for the downloadable Wizardry on PS3, but this looks nice too.

After playing one of the PS2's Japanese made Wizardry games I can honestly say it never got better than Sirtech's Wizardry 8.

Whichever company currently owns the Wizardry license should really just port 8 and 7 to the DS/PSP or do a graphical overhaul for a release as DLC.

I know alot of people don't like this kind of game, but I grew up on games like Wizardry, Might and Magic, and Bard's Tale and I hope this does come out in the US. I still love the menu-driven turn based rpgs.

It'll be interesting to see the modern Japanese take on one of my favorite series from yesteryear. I still break out Wizardry 7 and 8 every so often to give them run-throughs.

I have played Wizardry Gold (loved it, haven't completed it, in spite of two attempts). The graphical style on this DS game looks pretty good. I look forward to a European release (fingers and toes crossed). :O)

This would actually be the second Wizardry on the DS. There's another one from our friends in Japan that I imported a few years back. It's actually halfway playable, since there's an English option for menus and items.
