New screens for Taito's next Space Invaders, Puzzle Bobble photo

Two new Taito games are headed to the Nintendo DS, and we have screenshots and details for both of them.

Bub and Bob set off into space in Puzzle Bobble Galaxy. Out to save the universe, they get back to shooting colored bubbles out of their trusty cannon, working to match three of the same to clear them. Bubbles now are space debris, fallout from dimensional doors that have appeared. Wait, what? Wireless wi-fi battles are now possible, with support for up to four players. The visuals for this new game are vibrat and super cute -- like, even cuter than in previous games.

The first Space Invaders Extreme has a cult following, and the sequel looks to improve upon the forumla and make it even more...extreme.  Space Invaders Extreme 2 has overhauled game play, a futuristic graphic design, hot new audio, and new power-ups. . Did you play the first one? I don't know if it exactly qualifies as a sleeper, but it seems like many that I've talked to have missed this reinvention of the classic.

Puzzle Bobble Galaxy hits this summer and Space Invaders Extreme 2 follows this fall. I'm definitely getting both. Which are you getting?

I never tried the first SI:E, but I always wanted to play it. Going to get the second one, that's for sure.

Did the frontpage layout just change or something? The comment bar is all green.

Also, yay for Puzzle Bobble! I forgot when was the last time I played this game!

SIE is easily my favorite Invaders game - the first real "advancement" in the formula in quite some time. Will definitely be keeping an eye on the sequel.

Space Invaders Extreme 2 has faster gameplay but less memorable music. Believe me, I've played it.

Another iteration of Puzzle Bobble? Sure, there is a new multiplayer element in it, but other than that, it still seems like the same thing I played years ago. Space Invaders Extreme 2 looks positively hectic and seems to be trying out a new formula of sorts. And I gladly approve of that.

I tried out some of the Japanese SIE2 and while there's no real language barrier, I had the whole "I have no idea what's going on but this is fucking COOL!" thing happening while I played. XD

Sadly , the more I try , the less I can get people to play Bubble Bobble or Space Invaders with me (and they all have R4 , so it's not like they can't even try it ...)

I imported Space Invaders Extreme and I have played the japanese version of the second one.

So awesome.

Even better if you have the Arkanoid paddle attachment.
