While the name of this upcoming RPG leaves a little bit to be desired for me personally (it reminds me of the elaborate efforts to make one's name unique that you sometimes see on clerk nametags in Miami), I can't complain much about new RPGs heading to the 360 (or the PC)! Deck 13 and DTP Entertainment have teamed up to present Venetica, which will be released in 2009. A snippet of story from the press release (hit the jump for the rest): In the era of Venetica, Death walks among the living as a flesh & blood being, carrying out the deeds of an ancient council known by a few as Corpus. Each generation of the Corpus is set with the task of selecting the next predecessor of the bringer of death. Unfortunately, the most recent council had unwittingly selected a crafty necromancer who is determined on bringing death and destruction to the world. Hmm ... definitely not the usual save the princess business. I might be into this, but I'll have to wait until more details surface to be sure if it's my cup of tea. In the meantime, check out the full press release after the jump and discuss, discuss, discuss. [Via Strategy Informer -- Thanks, Jamie]
Deck 13, one of Germany’s most successful game developers, has teamed up with dtp entertainment to present Venetica, a visually stunning role-play game with a cryptic storyline. Venetica mixes emotions and action in a unique free roaming and living sixteenth century world full of surprise.
In the era of Venetica, Death walks among the living as a flesh & blood being, carrying out the deeds of an ancient council known by a few as Corpus. Each generation of the Corpus is set with the task of selecting the next predecessor of the bringer of death. Unfortunately, the most recent council had unwittingly selected a crafty necromancer who is determined on bringing death and destruction to the world.
This conniving imposter has managed to transform into an undead fiend, which no mortal man can kill. This power-crazed necromancer is hell-bent on destroying the reinstated Death and the council of Corpus. Only one person stands in his way, Scarlett, the daughter of Death.
Up to now she has known nothing of her origins, her powers and the capabilities that she possesses – now she is challenged to learn how to develop and use her powers to save her father and curse the necromancer and his henchmen to the eternal hereafter. dtp entertainment is going to release Venetica in 2009 for PC and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

This one picture looks like shit, so I'm gonna be meeeh about this game until launch.
hmmm, have to see what more there is to it.... until then I can wait, sounds interesting though
This one picture looks alright. I'll be interested in hearing more. The setting is interesting.
Ugly ass screenshot is ugly
The preview trailer can be found here
Still really not sure about it.
Reminds me a lot of Terry Pratchett's Mort, especially the idea of playing Death's daughter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mort
Something is just wrong with that girls hips. Either put more clothes on or figure out how to 3D model better, yikes!
The concept sounds interesting enough, but I don't know how I feel about the art direction. It's like they tried to take the art style from those old adventure games and modernize it, with questionable results. I'm no graphics whore, but something about these shots just throws me off.
I want to take a look at the combat before I make a ruling on this. From the trailer, it looks more like a 3rd person action game.
Is that.. in picture 3.. is that a giant enemy crab?
@Orcist
You don't have to be a g-whore to have a problem with a games artistic direction.
But yeah, this game gets a resounding meh from me til they drop more gameplay deets.
The combat looks like it could be itneresting and the games saving grace. I'm gussing graphics will improve but the artistic direction actually reminds me a bit of Beyond Good and Evil but doesn't seem to fit as well.
I don't really understand this, everything looks average.
C'mon! Particle effects, bloom, lack of colour! This needs to be ne- current gen!
After watching the trailer I have one word: MEH!
My graphic whoreness is too high for this game.
Looks like shit.
She's a bowling ball headed fool.
Not liking the screens, but it's relatively early, so there's still time for improvement. My only concern is the developer; Deck 13 has only done point and click adventures in the past, their most recent being Jack Keane and most well known Ankh. Decent games, to be sure, but since this is their first foray into the pure RPG realm...we shall see.
Ugh, agree about the unfortunate name. Here's a good one, gratis:
"Death Council"
i was initially put off by this game, but the trailer dragged me back in. Dunno if i'll buy it, but i'll keep an eye out now.
I think it looks okay. However, being german myself, I can safely say that my people haven't developed a good game in the last like 10 years. Plus I've had the pleasure of working with DTP before.. memories not too fond..
Storyline sounds a bit too...I don't know....Bleachy. I'll try to keep my mind open. Nice to see someone trying something different, but they have to look at that name again.
Reminds me of Sudeki (yes i know its japanese, for wonderful but the game was a bit meh). Please don't end up like that game, and think about renaming it.
After checking the preview trailer on IGN I hafta say I'm interested, but the graphics definitely need more flash and polish. Right now it looks like an uglier version of Fable 1.
Here's to hoping the game is simply that early in development. I'll keep an eye on it for sure, though.
One part interesting and one part generic mixed together. This could be good.
The concept seems interesting and I'm not so shallow that I don't want to play something just because its not covered in brown and bloom.
I'm with Matthew Blake on this one. It sounds eerily familiar to Terry Pratchett's Mort. For that matter, with Pratchett's take on Death in mind, I sincerely doubt this would engage me simply because I would constantly compare it to Pratchett's Death.
Dammit! Why can't we get another Discworld game?!
FTM! (For The Meh...)
I don't know. This might be an okay game, the problem is that it's an original IP so regardless of whether or not it's good or bad, it'll most likely get ignored.
I'll keep an eye on it anyway.
Don't care about the graphics, it's about the story and gameplay. So far the story has me hooked.
What kind of RPG is it? Is this DTP's first game? Why did they name it after a font?
I'm optimistic about this game. More Xbox RPGs are always welcome.
I was tricked, this ain't no RPG, it sounds more like button smashing with RPG elements.
Well, they shoulda used my Revolutionary JRPG Fighting Engine!
I'm not finding anything intriguing about it. Hopefully something nice pops up as development continues.
looks like Tomb Raider meets Viva pinata. Play the video and you will see.
