[New releases is your weekly look at all the hot new titles coming out this week.]
The major-huge-mega-awesome-omega-oh-my-gosh release of this week is easily Square Enix's long anticipated Final Fantasy XIII. So what system are you planning on getting the game for? Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3? Which is the better version?
Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition is also out this week and the new missions look pretty fun. Just getting to play the game as a lether-bound Jill Valentine is worth the price of addmission.
What's looking sw33t to all of you this week, Dtoiders? Hit the break for the full releases and trailers for most of the games!

Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Sweet. I can't wait to wander in the non-existent towns, and debate which of the non-existent branching paths I should take, and ponder on the non-existent decisions I won't be able to make in Final Fantasy XIII.
I'm definitely getting FF13 but I'm torn on whether or not to get Yakuza 3. I have a feeling it'll be hard to find after a while and I'd really like to support it but I just hate spending that much money in one day one games.
I'll be pickin' up XIII tomorrow for my PS3. I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to delve into it (probably not until next week), but it'll be fun to look at, at least.
Might get FFXIII only because I hear it is much more linear, and I tend to get lost/stuck in rpgs. I just don't know if I have the time for it right now though. Blur beta starts this week, looking forward to it.
I also feel obligated to mention that I really loved the Yakuza 3 demo but I just can't bring myself to spend over 120 bucks on games in a day. People are going to say "so get Yakuza instead," and I wish it were that simple.
I can't imagine Sega's reasoning for this awful release date.
FFXIII and Yakuza, and I'm still waiting on Blur to send me my XBL code. I should be able to swing both and still afford Resonance of Fate and Red Steel 2 later in the month. I love birthday money.
haha. I'm thinking of lying to my parents saying that now I'm a student again I need food money :-P (but go and buy FFXIII of course). Seriously can't wait, it certainly doesn't sound like a traditional FF but I'm so down with epic dungeon crawlers so yippee! (On ps3 too btw)
@Patriot Snake - Are you like part of the PS3s Krantt?
Question for all those losing their minds over the linearity of FFXIII:
When you're reading a normal fiction book do you stomp your feet and throw it in the fireplace and start demanding "gahhhh! Fuck this! I need a choose your own adventure book!"?
@I Use Valtrex - Are you kidding me!? I LOVE me some choose your own adventure books. I really wish a mature author (i know this is a cliche example of an author, but...) like Stephen King would make one out of the Dark Tower series. Amazing!? Yes.
But as for linearity comment, I totally agree with you there. I don't have any problems whatsoever with how "linear" FF XIII may be (and in actuality, it's not entirely linear through the entire game). When you boil down all games to the lowest common denominator, they all have a set of hoops you must jump through to beat the game. Sandbox games may throw in the ability to explore, but even titles like GTA IV only allows you so much freedom until you complete certain, linear missions (start at point A, and get to point B).
Even when you look at past FF games, you were given the illusion of freedom. But your map was pretty much always blocked by mountains or water in such a way that you are essentially forced to move from one town to your next mission location. That is of course, you don't have an airship, which then you could pretty much travel to wherever you wanted.
Question for people who compare books to games. When playing a game do you stomp your feet and complain that you aren't getting to do enough reading, or are being allowed to make too many choices? Linearity isn't necessarily a problem, but it can be in an interactive medium. FFXIII apologists are often as bad as the haters, let's none of us be either of them.
It was just a swipe at that first poster. Do I prefer more streamlined experiences like FF to more "open" ones like Fallout, ME/DA, et al? Sure, but that's just me. Do I still overall enjoy both types of RPG experiences? Sure. Will I be at my game store at midnight, receipt in hand, ready to receive my (for me, this is the first time I'm going PS3 for a multi-platform game) copy of FFXIII? You bet.
I just don't think calling out the haters makes me an apologist/fanboy. We all know what to expect going in now, and I expect to have a great time, regardless of whether "theswitcher" does or not. The end.
My only problem with linearity for FFXIII is that... I like feeling like I missed something, it gives me a reason to play the game more than once. Is that gone now?
An interview with the community manager over on Gamervision, hints that they may move the release date. Also, many people who pre-ordered both FFXIII and Yakuza 3 have been receiving shipping notices for FFXIII but not Yakuza.
I hate having to make choices in my games, especially when they involve shutting out parts of the game because I did one thing and not another. Bring on the linearity, or at least the pseudo-linearity of games like SMT: Nocturne.
Of course, I won't be buying FFXIII anyways because my brother is. I'm saving my money for next week and FRAGILE OMGOMGOMG. Might get Calling though, I'm kinda waiting on some info first.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, a new Sam and Max on Wii? I feel like SOMEONE shoudl be excited about that, and I feel a little guilty that it isn't me.
*sigh*
I CAN'T WAIT TO CHANGE DISCS YESSHHHHH
I can't imagine Sega's reasoning for this awful release date.
FFXIII, obviously, but where *else* do I begin?
I want Scrap Metal but what I really need is Perfect Dark in my life. Next week can't come soon enough!
I'd rather get punched in the face than listen to that song.

Before I got sacked.
The point is still valid!
And why am I just now hearing about a release date for Blazblue Portable? The series does still look gorgeous, though.
