New releases: Civilization V gets a massive expansion

3:15 PM on 07.08.2013

Civilization V is pretty good, but Brave New World makes it wonderful. Launching in a couple of days, the latest expansion is filled with a bevy of new features, most of which improve the tiresome late game with new paths to victory and greater flexibility. The changes and additions are so expansive that this might as well be a new game, from the diverse civilizations -- including Venice, a civ that can't even generate settlers -- to the engaging trade system. It's really rather rad.

A few other notable titles are also dropping this week. The Walking Dead: 400 Days snuck up on us last week, and now it's arriving the App Store. I found it to be a novel narrative experiment but not quite as affecting as the first series. On top of this, we've got the shooty, crafty Guncraft; the anniversary celebrating Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection; and men hitting each other as they try to hold a slippery pigskin

Anything grabbing your attention this week?

Xbox 360: Dark, NCAA Football 14

PS3: Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection, NCAA Football 14

Wii U: Star Wars Pinball

PC: Civilization V: Brave New World, Guncraft, Toki Tori 2

Vita: Total Recoil, Aabs Animals, Coconut Dodge Revitalised, History: Legends of War: Patton

PSN: History: Legends of War: Patton, Binary Domain, LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey

iOS: The Walking Dead: 400 Days

NCAA Football 14 (PS3, Xbox 360)

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection (PS3)

Total Recoil (Vita)

The Walking Dead: 400 Days (iOS)
