Man I am so excited for this. More Ratchet & Clank from a development studio that's never made a bad game? Yes please! Ratchet & Clank is, in my opinion, the greatest series of all time. A Crack in Time is in my top 5 games ever made list.
I just hope that the game doesn't do away with the platforming and puzzle solving. I love the shooting and all, and the tower defense sounds awesome, but I really just love traditional ol' Ratchet & Clank gameplay.
I really can't complain though. Insomniac is keeping the franchise alive and that's a hell of lot more than most devs would do for a genre that's pretty much dead in the water.

Normally I'd be a bit wary of something like this, that feels like maybe the devs are going to tack it on. But that's how I thought the time puzzles in Crack In Time would be, and those were actually really, really awesome. So I trust Insomniac on this. They wouldn't do it if they couldn't make it work right.
I'm super worried.

Mostly because if it's not that great, at least there's the HD collection. And I'm also going to assume this downloadable title will be testing the waters for a full-blown mode within the next R&C title, which I wouldn't mind.

Bleh. I have yet to enjoy a tower defense experience unless the entire game was designed around it, so not exciting me. It does kind of seem like it would fit nicely well with Ratchet and Clank at least.
Insomniac can do no wrong in my eyes. They can do whatever the hell they want to do. Uncle Ted knows how to make it fun!
The entire PR for this game has been so misleading. You claim that it's "back to classic Ratchet" (read: RC1&2), but then you cram in an unnecessary tower defense game, two player co-op, and the multiplayer mode that no one ever played in Up Your Arsenal or Deadlocked.
How is that back to formula? This was originally pitched as the apology to the fans for bastardizing the Ratchet franchise by using All 4 One as a beta test for the co-op you're putting into Overstrike. The comparisons were drawn to Quest for Booty and I was immediately on board: budget game, standalone, half the length of a full sequel, and a themed sidestory/epilogue/bridge for the franchise.
Now I'm not so sure. Please don't disappoint, Insomniac. Your last two games have been far from quality. I'm worried now.

Just because you were a plebeian without a network adapter doesn't mean no one played Up Your Arsenal's multiplayer.

It's probably just a mini-game element that pops up 2 or 3 times throughout the course of the game. Like the planet levels or Giant Clank.
Still, though. The only reason tower defense gets a bad rep is because there are so many bad tower defense games. Even my favorite TD games (Defense Grid and Sanctum on PC, Fieldrunners on PSP) are imbalanced and could use some polish.
