I'm not sure if its our weird Monopoly-like money or our cute one and two dollar coins that Sony marketers love so much, but its obvious that Sony loves Canadian money more than American, because why else would they ask for more of it.
Sony has hiked the price on the Playstation 3 60 GB unit in Canada from $649.99 to $699.99 in a very head-up-their-butts move recently. Both Future Shop and Best Buy are listing the console at the new price which has myself and probably other gamers hugging their Xbox 360s and Nintendo Wiis for being so cheap.
I personally gave my Xbox 360 a hummer last night, because I would rather do that then pay an extra $50 for a PS3.
Thanks Sony for screwing your friendly neighbors to the north. Expect a bag full of moose droppings in your mailbox soon.

[Update: Gamespot.com has reported that the price increase has been brought on by the retailers and not Sony.
"Although the suggested retail price (SRP) of the PlayStation 3 in Canada has not changed, some Canadian retailers have chosen to increase their retail price as a result of the weaker Canadian dollar. This increase is solely at the discretion of the retailer, as Sony Computer Entertainment Canada has not issued a price increase."--An SCEC representative.
So I guess I better send an apology letter to Sony now for the moose dropping and start setting flaming bags of dog poop outside Future Shops and Best Buys.]
Faith, did your 360 turn over and fall asleep when you were done with it?
The shipping charges and methods of shipment (usually either mail or courier) aren't the total of the costs you'll have to pay to get that package across the Canadian border though. If goods are coming across the border, you will also have to consider, and be ready to pay, Canada customs duties, taxes and custom brokerage fees.
How much is that Xbox 360 again?
Sony IS japanese right?
For the record, given the conversion rate for the dollar right now, changing it to $699 is more is closer to $599 US than the current price of $659. In fact American wanting a deal can probably still find them at $659. So really their bringing the price up the US price, this doesn't make it any better. Also Best Buy and Futureshop are the same company, so there is a slim chance this is a mistake on their part. Hopefully.

Well, 90% of the population lives close to the US boarder so can't they just come over here, buy one, and then go back? We have plenty waiting on shelves in our stores.
Problem with that is it costs money to cross the border, and then we have to pay duties on anything we bring back. It'd cost even more.
Who wants a PS3 anyway? There's nothing great on it right now, and I'm not working out $700 for a system, then $98 in taxes on top, and that's not counting games. I like my PS2 just fine.

I'll update that.
Even so, it would probably be cheaper for me to drive to the States, buy one there, and then drive back across.
"Anything to declare?"
"No."
"Ok, go on through"
