[Update: The site pictured on the right is Destructoid. Can you see it? How about them apples!]
Dear Sony,
Well played, Sony. Neck-beardy multi-computer using "Rumor Monger" guy asks for a comment on a PlayStation 3 price drop in a new television and web spot. That's supposed to be us, right? Cute. And the "Director of Rumor Confirmation?" That's also cute. Real cute.
The new TV spot is funny, Sony. And I see where you're going with this whole "It Only Does Everything" campaign. Games, movies, downloads -- yeah, we get it. It's a cool new way to come at us with your skinny new 120GB system. This is way better than the creepy white room commercials from a few years back.
We hear that there are nine more ad spots coming this year. Interesting. I saw that other one -- that one with the "VP of Enough is Enough." You're taking the informational route, eh? Nice. Also funny. My only advice to you is to not put too much focus on the extras. People out there need to know that this machine plays videogames, and good ones. You keep changing your focus. Mixing it up is good, but don't forget about the games.
Sincerely,
Dale North
P.S. - Good move on ditching that silly Spiderman font.

Funny, well played Sony.
Although many of their old ads didn't make any sense at all, they generated a lot attention online, especially on Youtube, and that's some free advertisement right there. And I think it was refreshing to see something so bizarre, call me crazy.
But yeah, Sony has had their highs and lows in ads, this is definitively a good one.
Decent ads, they're better than most of their recent stuff. I hope you aren't actually butthurt and you're just joking Dale, if you are, don't take it seriously.
Wow, sony's ads actually make sense now...and are...gasp! Witty and funny?
These are real good. They should keep it up! And not go back to insane crying baby dolls.
I thought they were pretty funny, especially if they're making fun of all the leaks. I think you're being a bit overly sensitive, Dale. If this isn't sarcasm, I mean. Hard to tell, since I don't know you very well.
But yeah, it doesn't play PS2 games, DOES IT SONY? Not really, no. You turkeys. Way to pour salt in the wound. :C
I'm just going to point out that the PS3 font was "the Sony Font" wayyyyy before it was the Spiderman 3 font. My friend's got a MD player from 1995 with that font on the controls. Sony just decided to use it for Spiderman.
Also, props on making some funny ads. The Dustin Pedroia ad that first starred the "Sony rep" was too little joke for the telegraphed payoff, but these are both pretty good. At least one of the major companies isn't afraid to be a little self-deprecating. =)
Thanks for the posting these videos. The ads seemed funny in concept, but it's good to see that they actually work.
I love that "WHAT?!? What is this, 1992?" in the second commercial.
I like that the second commercial stars a lady, but why can't she just plug the Playstation into the Internet? Does she have too much estrogen flowing through her body to be able to pick up an ethernet cable without cooing to it like it's a baby?
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

I liked the crazy ads they used to have, but I'll take an amusing ad campaign with just as much enjoyment. Hopefully the quality keeps up.

Holy F, it sure looks like it!
Good eye there!
C'MON!
wow... /clap, better than that weird crying baby couple of years ago... Great AD!
Good job, Sony!
It would be better though if the fat game blogger was Jim. But then Jim's annoying accent would probably ruin the entire campaign I suppose
ps: destructoid is on the monitor in the background :D:D
Well played Sony, well played.
