God, I want to be excited for the Prince of Persia movie. The series has been one of my favorites from its earliest roots on ancient computers to the divisive newest game. I want it to be good so incredibly badly. And thus, every time a new trailer lands like the one above I look for more and more hints that this won't just be a big budget catastrophe. My fears have been slightly assuaged, but are far from gone.

While clearly not the next Citizen Kane, I think we'll be having some solid action in this sucker. What we won't be having is a decent screenplay as those one-liners are terrible. I mean really, bad. They're supposed to put the best ones in the trailer, so that is not a good sign. However, as a fan of bad action, I can confirm that this does appear to be a good back action flick. Only a few months until we find out for sure.

We needed this why? We're people really beating the doors of Hollywood down for this? You know it will make a billion dollars and spawn a trilogy..sigh

This trailer gets your heart pumping if Jake Gyllenhizzle gets your heart pumping.

I am actually pretty excited to see this, as a fan of the Sands of Time trilogy, but I am also still skeptical about it at the same time.

Well, looks like worst comes to worst, we get a "National Treasure" silly bad instead of just "bad bad". I'm fine with that.

I saw some of the sets for this when I went to visit the MET film school. Somewhat impressive - though I doubt the film itself will be.

Only the sands of time will tell.

Oh yes, I went there.

It'll be one of the 1st good video game movies...assuming your not like me and you didnt think Mortal Kombat was good. But they took alot out.. i think they should have left the setting the same and just added a few non sand zombie characters in.....but no Hollywood must have deemed a castle full of sand zombies too boring....

This doesn't look nearly as "bad" as everyone keeps saying it does. What exactly is it that makes a movie "good" or "bad"?

@ DAnielzilla,

"This doesn't look nearly as "bad" as everyone keeps saying it does. What exactly is it that makes a movie "good" or "bad"?"

Have you had your head buried in the sand and have not seen a hollywood movie in the last couple decades?

Somebody above my comment referenced "National Treasure", and you know.. that's probably about right. I'm expecting that calibre of movie. Cheap thrills, a mindless damsel in distress, and soulless acting.

I'm sure the computer drawings, aka special effects, will be something people will enjoy if that's their sort of thing. And that's OK.. all movies don't have to have mind-blowing narratives or deep involving characters. Sometimes movies just need to entertain you for 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon and be forgotten about by dinner time. This is one of those movies. It cheaply entertains and you can move right along.

Hot damn, those were some kickass action sequences.

Yeah, the obligatory romantic subplot make me cringe, but the rest of it looks pretty neat. I can excuse a stupid plot if the fight scenes are good enough. :D

On it's own, that trailer came off as kind of annoying. Though if the movie spaces out all the eye-roll action-movie-lines and there's no more dialogue between the Prince and the love interest than there was here, it might be no worse than a middle-of-the-road Bruckheimer flick.

Does that mean I'll see it in theaters? Hell no. But I might catch a gander from a bootleg online when I feel like it.

PoP is one of my favourite videogame series and I'm quite cautious to see how the film pans out. So far I'm imagining a Pirates of the Carribean kind of affair...But in the desert.

@spykron

What's Depp come to represent exactly? Pirates aside he is only in non mainstream films and he does pirates A)For a laugh and his kids and B)So studios let him do all the smaller films.
I like Depp because even though he is good looking he never plays pretty boy roles* in rom-coms etc and he is a total pisshead like me. If you have any interest in how wrong you are look on Youtube for the interview him and Tim Burton did on Jonathon Ross.

*21 Jump Street was a TV show and every actor does crap to start with, besides he hated what they tried to make him.

I swear...I think the special effects in the games look more realistic.
I can't tell you how happy I am we're getting another green screened background of a movie. I just can't.
Know why Pirates worked? Personality of the characters and special effects that looked well done and blended in to the woprld for the most part. I didn't see either of those things in this trailer.
Eh, maybe I'll give it a try one day when it's on Netflix's instant stream.

Oh, and best typo ever: "good back action flick."
You made Brokeback Mountain pop into my mind and gave me a good laugh.
Maybe that's a clue as to why the Prince isn't interested in the Princess? It's okay, Jake. You can sign into LIVE and finally declare your true self.

Still have to see Legion, Book of Eli and Edge of Darkness. Don't really have the money to see a movie I know will be sub-par just because it will be slightly entertaining. Think I'll give it a miss for now.

The joke was all the movies you mentioned are sub-par action flicks, right?
That was intentional.

That's not an answer to my question. You're just saying you are somehow above seeing this movie because other movies are better. How can a Prince of Persia movie be "good"? Maybe if Wes Anderson made it? The Prince was quirky and addicted to drugs? Ooh, maybe they can get Michael Cera to play the prince and Juno Bitch to be the princess?
